Customer Reviews

Very good video.4
Through this private lession, Frank Klausz will teach you how to apply several finishes as well as how to prepare the surfaces.

In the first part, surface preparation is described.
You will learn how to use a smoothing plane, a card scrapper (including how to sharpen it) and sand paper.

You will then learn how to apply an oil finish, how to spray lacquer and how to do French polishing with shellac.

The video is very informative and was definitively a good help for me. My only point of complaint is that it is not always obvious from the video to see the actual effect of the finish. More closeup maybe a better lighting would have been welcome.

Awesome video5
This video is one of the best that I have seen. Frank breaks everything down step by step and you get the chance to watch the entire process with a detailed explanation of why it is done and benefits of taking it to yet more steps. His processes are more lengthy however I have used this info and followed his steps and my finishes have improved 100%

For the beginner2
When I ordered the video I was hoping that I would see different solutions/techniques while they were applied.

This video is great for a beginner. For someone that has little experience with finishing, the video allows them to see finishes being applied. Someone beyond the basics will be disappointed.

The author shows you how to apply oil, water and alcohol finishes but spends very little if any time discussing the problems encountered with different stains/dyes. In addition, the video quality is poor which prevents you from seeing any detail.

If you have ever applied a stain, or dye to a project and was not satisfied with the appearance (color or surface quality) you need to look elsewhere for solutions. A couple of good finishing books are "Understanding Wood Finishing" by Bob Flexner and "Great Wood Finishes" by Jeff Jewitt.
