Buffalo Horn Pass straddles the Gallatin Range Divide between the Yellowstone and Gallatin Rivers. The pass lies between the northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park and Ramshorn Peak in the 26,000-acre Gallatin Petrified Forest. Millions of years ago, volcanic mudflows smothered and preserved ancient tropical forests in this fascinating area. Exposed by erosion, petrified stumps and logs are abundant throughout the landscape. The hike begins from Tom Miner Campground and parallels Trail Creek, continuing past the creek’s headwaters to a circular meadow at the 8,523-foot summit of Buffalo Horn Pass. Atop the ridge are the petrified forest and a 4-way junction, with connections to the Gallatin Canyon, Ramshorn Peak, and Yellowstone National Park. (followed by driving and hiking directions, map)

Excellent day hiking guide for the Bozeman MT area5
This well researched book has many excellent short hikes in the Bozeman area including Bear Canyon, Galatin Valley and Paradise Valley. The book includes hikes to waterfalls, mountain lakes and of course, the wonderful Hyalite Canyon area. For day hikes in Yellowstone National Park, Stone has published "Day Hikes in Yellowstone National Park."

Useful4
If you are visiting the Bozeman area in the near future - this is a must have resource if you are going to hike. The information is mostly up to date, one note when the book says the rode is rough on the way to the trail, you may want to have a car than can handle mud and bumps and bad roads.

In other words, leave the rental car that is front wheel drive and subcompact for the easy roads.

Good book -

No Crazy Mountain range included2
We were planning on hiking the Crazy Mountain range, but there were no trails included in this book even though they are in the Bozeman area.
