This second edition is completely revised, and boasts hundreds of new color photographs, color drawings, and useful tables to illustrate research-proven techniques. It is written in conjunction with the USGA Green Section agronomists and covers the practical and technical aspects of turfgrass culture, management, and operation of golf courses.
James B. Beard was born in Bradford, Ohio in 1935, earned a BSc degree from Ohio State University in 1957, Summa cum laude, and both MSc and PhD degrees from Purdue University in 1959 and 1961, respectively. He subsequently was awarded a National Science Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Life Science Department at the University of California-Riverside in 1969. He has held research-teaching positions on the faculties at Michigan State University from 1961 to 1975 and Texas A&M University from 1975 to 1992, and served as interim Heard of the Soil and Crop Science Department in 1980. He founded the International Sports Turf Institute, Inc. in 1992. Dr. Beard is an international advisor and lecturer on turfgrass issues. He has published over 260 scientific research papers and over 400 popular technical articles.

This is simply a good book
I use this book at school for a class called "golf course organization and maintenace." It is geared directly to golf courses. The fact of the matter is that it covers every imaginable aspect of golf course maintenance and operations, and I do mean everything. In my opinion there is no other book more valuable for persons training to be golf course superintendents. If your already a superintendent I'm sure it would still be a wise decision to purchase this book.
