With a well-earned reputation as man's — as well as woman's — best friend, dogs have an uncanny ability to sense exactly what their human friends need. Gathered from thousands of stories Allen and Linda Anderson have received, as well as their own experiences, Angel Dogs demonstrates that dogs are not only faithful companions but also spiritual guides. Stories include the four-legged speech therapist who helped a scared boy find his voice; the dog who came "special delivery" through the mail at just the right moment in a family’s life; the dog who helped guard Air Force One; dogs from the canine corps; service dogs; and many others. The book also details new scientific findings on how dogs can save lives, sniff out cancerous tumors, and warn epileptics of impending seizures. Each story is followed by a short meditation that helps readers focus on the messages of love that dogs bring to their lives.

From Publishers Weekly
We all know of dogs that have performed seemingly miraculous acts of mercy and heroism. Some of the tales in the Andersons' latest tribute to the animal world (after Angel Cats and Angel Animals) includes such stories, but the collection goes even further: into the spiritual. Some of the stories involve dogs returning after death to communicate with their owners. Fred Wickert, for example, doesn't seem like the woo-woo type: a Vietnam vet, he'd had a long career in the air force when he fell asleep one night while guarding Air Force One and believes his late cocker spaniel, Freckles, came to him in the hangar and wakened him before he was discovered sleeping on duty. Most of the stories included here involve dogs in this life rather than the next, but are based on the belief that dogs are spiritual creatures. Collie Zeke woke Diana Johnson at 3:30 a.m. to let her know her premature baby had stopped breathing, saving her life. Bill Mann tells of the deep, spiritual bond between his father and Aussie, who would break his chain to follow him on walks after Mann's father showed the dog kindness one day. New Age dog lovers will be moved by these stories and find their faith in their pets' heavenly nature affirmed.

Great Book!
Talk about a warm, fuzzy, heart touching book, this is it. Authors Allen & Linda Anderson have touched on the very core of the existence of our beloved pet, the dog.
Taking accounts from numerous people they share with us stories of courage, love, loyalty, sacrifice and more that our four legged friends have bestowed on humans. After each story we have a short meditation that enhances the read.
I am a dog lover so for me this just re-enforced their need in our world and helped me appreciate them more. Are they indeed sent from our Maker as messengers of love? I believe that may well be true. If you love dogs, or even if you just want to understand their unique service to man; this book is for you.Written in a tender, honest, interesting and absorbing way; you will find it difficult to put this book down. I recommend "Angel Dogs" highly. Absolutely amazing insight!
The special relationship between dogs and humans
Allen and Linda Anderson's "Angel Dogs" is a perfect present for all dog lovers. As the authors point out, the original meaning of angel is messenger. The individual true accounts that follow from a variety of writers show that dogs do indeed, have special messages for us, not the least of which is unconditional love and devotion. The authors' introduction touches briefly on the unique relationship between dogs and humans dating back to the Stone Age. It is followed by individual accounts of dogs who played a special role sometimes heroic, sometimes healing, and sometimes just being there in response to the emotional need of a member of their family.
It makes you wonder what early humans did to inspire such steadfast devotion from another species.
Truly and inspirational book with 4 paws! Great.
Very few books will touch your heart and make you think about the unselfishness and the overwhelming goodness contributed to our world by dogs. This is a wonderful book full of true, heartfelt stories about dogs. Attention is immediately captured by the first story about a Jack Russell terrier, named Cpl. J. R. Dugan, apparently his "Daddy" gave him his rank as a Marine, that is guaranteed to give any reader goose bumps. This is a must read for any dog lover and will make converts of the rest. I smiled all day thinking about the wonderful stories--really a "day brightener". I am ordering more for stocking stuffers.
