AMONG TREES is a photographic journey that spans time and the continents. It is a sojourn in olive groves in Italy and palm trees on Rodeo Drive, a royal hunting forest in England and banyans on Maui, Louisiana live oak and Segovian pines, a hilltop shrouded in mist in China and a Christmas-lit tree on Madison Avenue.
Each extraordinary photograph conjures up all the expected and predictable pleasures of walking in the woods, the spiritual qualities of deep forests, the quiet rhythms of Nature, and our own connectedness with the basics of life. However, Among Trees is more than just a beautiful book. It is also an invitation to open up to the unexpected and the creative, and as we do so, to be somehow deepened or changed by it. Because this book is not simply about seeing pictures of interesting trees, it is about shifting our minds and awareness to experience the world and ourselves differently. For all the variety of trees, the book is really about the experience of being in among them.

Editorial Reviews
From the Inside Flap
Photographs at once stark and lush, tranquil and vibrant, dramatic and contemplative—forests full of surprise.
For photographer Sean Kernan, Among Trees was born out of the simple act of photographing the groves and forests he saw as he worked, traveled, and lived in the world. As the shape of the work emerged, he began to wander further in search of these visions made of trees and light. After many years, he has collected these remarkable photographs and gained insight into the way that art takes us deep inside ourselves at the very same time that it calls us out into our world.
The fundamental act of seeing changed and enriched the photographer, just as the photographs in Among Trees will lead readers on a journey of their own.
This book is an invitation to experience all the anticipated pleasures of walking in the woods, the spiritual qualities of the deep forests, the near-operatic dramas of nature, our human connections with the natural world. As author Anthony Doerr writes in his introduction, "It is my hope that you turn the pages of this book and see something of the thousand landscapes around us—to imagine not only what is inside Kernan's frams, but outside them as well." Because Among Trees is not so much about leafing through pictures of interesting and beautiful trees as it is about being among trees and coming to see our world and ourselves differently.

Customer Reviews
Disappointing
The photos are good, but beyond a note of the place taken, there are no words of explanation. After Thomas Pakenham's 'Remarkable Trees' this disappoints.
Among Trees calendar, 2007
This is a beautifully presented, artistic collection of photo-portraits of interesting trees. Sean Kernan has really captured the mood of the trees and woods that he portrays so well.
However, the recipient of the calendar, as is often the case, is not an artist. In this case my wife, for whom the calendar was a Christmas present, was rather disappointed because it is not in color.

Not a bad bad artistic vision of nature
Not a bad bad artistic vision of nature. it you judge it for what it is rather than what it is not, It's pretty good. Not bad for the price either.
