Editorial Reviews

Review
"Julie Moir Messervy's latest book, Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love, stands out as distinctly in the crowded world of garden books, as a whimsical and finely groomed topiary in the middle of a vast suburban lawn. Julie distills her knowledge into concepts and aesthetics so readable and doable that even the beginning gardener will feel comfortable creating a personal and welcoming landscape. This user-friendly, and earth-easy volume will be my design companion for years to come." --Sharon Lovejoy is the author of Trowel & Error, A Blessing of Toads, Roots Shoots Buckets & Boots, and Sunflower Houses

The outside of your home deserves your attention too. After all, it is part of the house. Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love by Julie Moir Messervy (The Taunton Press; $30; hardcover) offers a six-step process that can help you make the outside of your living space an extension of the inside. --Orlando Sentinel, February 14, 2009

Review
A well-designed landscape extends your home beyond its four walls. Landscape and garden designer Julie Moir Messervy shows readers how to create living spaces outdoors in her new book, Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love. Messervy believes most people are more comfortable fixing up rooms than yards, so she seeks to instill confidence by taking a step-by-step approach. She addresses real-life challenges, such as limited time, budget constraints and neighborhood association rules, and provides a wealth of ideas and photos for inspiration.

Great Garden Design Book!5
This is by far one of the best written and most informative books on landscape design. Chock full of beautiful photographs, ideas and landscape diagrams. This book is for everyone, from the novice to the trained professional. Great source for inspiration and ideas.

I've never read a book like this5
This book has gorgeous color photographs, and terrific ideas. I've never had landscape design explained so easily and logically. The book sparked ideas for me immediately, and the ideas will tie my yard/garden together in a much more pleasing way.

Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love5
This book was everything I had hoped for and more. It is well organized, the photos are sumptuous, and the illustrations are very well done and reinforce her design theories. This book is useful for the novice and professional. I have toured Julie Moir Messervy's Music Garden in Toronto and after that experience I kept any articles which talked about her work. She generously shares her inspirations and knowledge for creating these very personal home gardens. This book will not spend much time on the shelf.
