Integrating Holistic and Conventional Healing Therapies
How refreshing and what a blessing it is to have a text book like this for nurses! Debbie has a wonderful way of communication through her professional experience and knowledge. The information is down to Earth, practical advise, that anyone in the nursing field can understand and apply. I am not a nurse, but I am an alternative healing teacher and pratitioner. I have several friends who are nurses, and I have taught nurses through my alternative healing practice. This text is well written and an easy read. If you want to expand your view on alternative healing practices, this book will be a valuable study and reference tool to use and keep on your book shelf. I gave "Reiki Touch for Nurses" 5 stars because Debbie's style and explanation is the basic meat and potatoes for blending holistic and traditional healing therapies.

A marketing tool, no specific substance
As a nurse and a Reiki practitioner, I was enthused to see a book concerning Reiki, written by a nurse and aimed toward nurses. Unfortunately, I found this book to be a big let-down. If I were a nurse who had never experienced Reiki for myself, reading this book would not have gotten me any closer to an understanding of actual technique and HOW it is done and used.
This book is less about actual Reiki content, and more about marketing the author's specific classes and website. I understand the author's desire to market her classes and products; but to do so in a book titled in such a way to lead the reader to believe that there is actual technique content included is misleading.
There is some lengthy attention given to discussion of the body's energy system itself and chakras, but Reiki technique itself is pretty much limited to a few mentions of where hands are usually place on the body in her technique, and this comes only as a sentence or two in the last third of the book. When you finally reach the last section of the book, titled "Practical application," there really is no information that can be applied practically by the reader---only further testimonials, a few simplistic case histories, and detailed information about what is taught in each of her class levels.
Overall, I found this book very rambling, repetitious with an almost continuous string of spelling errors, strange word capitalizations in the middle of sentences, grammatical errors, misspellings and sentence fragments, which made the reading itself quite unpleasant and confusing at times. I do not mean to be unkind, but this book reads like a piece that went straight to press without any editing whatsoever.
However, all of the above-mentioned aside, the most disappointing aspect of the book was that the further along I read, the more I realized that I had just spent money for a book about a technique, only to instead receive an extended marketing booklet with only snippets alluding to a technique. VERY disappointing to say the least.
I am quite amazed that a previous reviewer could refer to this book as being a "textbook" for nurses! If you are a nurse and want to actually learn about Reiki and how it can help your clients, you won't find what you're looking for in this book. I recommend reading one of the many good Reiki books available that is aimed at a general audience. This book will not help you incorporate Reiki into your practice in any way, but it will tell you, many times over, where you can go to take Reiki Touch classes. I don't fault the author for marketing her classes and product, but I do fault her for misleading fellow nurses into buying a book that contains no content they can actually use in their practice!
A great contribution to the nursing profession!
Widely known and gifted healer and cardiac nurse, Debbie Wingate, RN, does a great service in writing her first book, "Reiki Touch". Through her book, Debbie informs nurses and all that are interested in the benefits of Energy Medicine and her own healing modality that she developed as a practicing cardiac nurse, "Reiki Touch" to assist patients in their healing and recovery.
Debbie shows how the human body is more than just flesh but also spiritual energy. She shows that the body's spiritual energy can be sluggish or blocked in certain areas and reveals how practicing "Reiki Touch" on your patients can assist in removing those blocks and bringing the spiritual body back to balance thus expediting recovery from the physical ailment.
Integrative medicine is now mainstream and the mind, body and spirit of the patient must all be addressed to achieve true healing. Let Debbie Wingate, RN and Reiki Master and born healer to teach you through her book and workshops how you can help your patients as well as yourself in a way you never thought possible! I promise that you will not be disappointed.
