Product Description

Can you recall the first time you rode a horse or galloped down an empty beach?  The first time you heard the knowing “neigh” as the saddle shifted on the proud stallion’s back? Bring back those wonderful memories with this enormous 800-page anthology. Featuring personal insights from some of the world’s foremost equestrian writers, including Anna Sewell, Nicholas Evans, Cormac McCarthy, and others, it will surely pull the heartstrings of serious jockeys and casual riders alike. Traveling from the open plains to the cattle ranches of the beauteous Midwest, from the quiet seclusion of small town America to the clamor of New York, this special volume reminds us of all the little bits of wisdom we can learn from our equestrian friends.

A Gigantic Disappointment1
I don't want to unfairly criticize this book because I'm sure someone might enjoy it. However, I've read about as much 'wisdom' on the tshirts in all the equine catalogs I get in the mail. I was hugely disappointed by this book. If you are looking for a book with actual 'wisdom' in it, something practical, forget this book. I'd like to say that if you're looking for a cute coffee table or bathroom book, this is it, but I don't think it even rates that. I poured through this book hoping to squeeze just a few of my pennys' worth out of it, but what I found was
1. the same quotes repeated over again from one 'chapter' to the next. I guess they figured no one would pay attention
2. quotes that didn't really pertain to horses. e.g. 'put the cart before the horse'? Isn't the saying "DON'T put the cart before the horse?" which is a proverb, not 'horse wisdom'
3. and even the introductions to the chapters could have been sweet, meaningful, personal little stories from the author, but instead ? I don't know what the points were.
I really feel cheated by this book. That was a lot of money wasted.

A book of horse-sized wisdom5
For any equine lover. This book really is Gigantic and filled with quips and quotes about Horses that inspire and amuse anybody who has ever encountered one of nature's finest creatures.
