About the Author
Karen Vieira, MSM, Ph.D. is a freelance Medical, Scientific and Technical Writer. She has published several scientific manuscripts in reputable journals such as Journal of Biological Chemistry. Prior to becoming a writer, she worked full time as a health and wellness research scientist for Kraft Foods in the Nutrition Research department, designing and overseeing research studies to discover novel health benefits of existing food ingredients. Vieira gained her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the College of Medicine at the University of Florida.
