Product Description

As I read the books of Helen Roseveare, these powerful words come to my mind REALITY, VISION, INTEGRITY, COURAGE, ACTION and FORGIVENESS. They are all words that we need to hold centrally in our lives too. Perhaps you dont read many books but I would urge you to read this one and then to share what youve learned with others. They are a huge challenge to the indifference and lukewarmness of our day. It is necessary for the church to have IMPACT for the good of this world. Helen shows what kind of impact you too can have. George Verwer Sacrifice is a term of the past, not of today. Today, no one is expected to sacrifice anything. We are surrounded by game shows that give you riches if you answer a few questions on general knowledge or guess the right box to open. The unspoken spirit of the age is if something is difficult, do something else instead. If something is expensive, borrow it or borrow the money to buy it. What place does sacrifice have in this world? The Bible says it is central and that sacrifice is not only a vital key to the future, it is the essence of a Christians life, today. That is what Helen explores in this new edition of the classic Living series. If you pick up this book anywhere and start to read it, you wont be able to put it down as she skilfully weaves stories of sacrifice together with Christian teaching on the subject. God does have a right to demand our sacrifice with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and it is our privilege to respond to that demand. If those words sound alien to you then you may not have yet entered into the joy of Christian belief and service. The key to an authentic life is sacrifice. Helen Roseveare has led an incidentfilled life as a medical missionary. A bestselling author, she is still active in writing and in demand for international conferences on mission and faith. Her other books in the Living series are Living Faith ISBN 978 184550 2959 , Living Holiness, Living Stones and Living Fellowship.

A Thoughtful Devotional4
I heard Dr. Roseveare speak at a Women's Conference and was incredibly drawn to her humility and deep understanding of what it means to "walk worthy of the calling". Her book, "Living Sacrifice", has become a trusted devotional, helping me to realize just what it means to love God with all of my heart, mind, soul and strength.

It seems that Christianity today celebrates our faith when things go well for us. This "pop" faith recognizes Jesus' ministry and miracles, His resurrection and the resulting power, but skips over the deep struggles experienced in His death. This paints an unrealistic picture of our own lives when we are called on to "die to self" - many people do not know how to respond when things go wrong, and really struggle in their faith. Dr. Roseveare's book gives meaningful illustrations from her own ministry in the Congo that show how tough it is to die to one's own understanding and trust God when things go wrong. That is the measure of the love that God wants from believers - to let go in the face of every situation and honestly believe that God will provide for our needs.

I have used this book as a devotional, reading a chapter a week and letting God show me areas of my life that need deeper surrender and trust. It has profoundly deepened my relationship with God, and helped me to relate more thoroughly with the life of Jesus.
