Katherine Sorrell demonstrates the art of creating a home where old and new live in harmony, and shows how to add interest with unexpected or individual pieces. The main part of the book, Spaces, looks at each room, showing how to mix objects to create a home that is original, comfortable, prectical, and stylish. The hints in Getting It Right include choosing larger items with classic lines and understated colors, and introducing light-hearted touches. The Elements looks at the main ingredients of the old and new look, from battered leather sofas to 1950s pressed-glass bowls. - Forget old-fashioned notions of "good taste" and approach the decoration of your home with boldness and imagination. - 50,000 copies sold in hardcover.

Customer Reviews
Nice idea, poor execution
A small book in length and scale with limited information. Does indeed show antiques juxtaposed with new pieces, but nothing much beyond what you see on the cover. Minimal interiors with interesting mixes of old and new, but just about any two items will look good together in a museum like setting. I was hoping to learn some tricks to combine the two in more "natural" home settings. Disappointing.
A little gem...
The book is small in size but a real gem. I really enjoyed this book and I enjoy it's company alongside some of my other favorite books. Highly recommend.
I expected more from this book
I expected more form this book. Its too small and too deja-vu. There is nothing outstanding on it.
