Amazon.com Product Description
Enhance the quality of your dadoes with Freud's SD508 Eight-Inch Super Dado Set with Anti-Kickback Design. Designed to produce smooth, chip-free dadoes and grooves every time, this set is designed to take on a wide range of materials, from hardwoods to laminates. For exceptional precision, the blade width can be adjusted in 1/32-inch increments, while the included shim set allows for even finer adjustments.

Razor-Sharp Blades for Smooth, Splinter-Free Dadoes
The perfect dado set for the fine cabinetmaker or weekend woodworker, the Freud SD508 produces dadoes and grooves that meet with flush, even edges. So you can be assured of precise cuts every time, the set is equipped with precision-grade features, starting with two proprietary razor-sharp outside blades.

These high-quality eight-inch, 24-tooth blades with 5/8-inch arbors cut dadoes and grooves that are clean, flat, and virtually splinter free. Cuts made by these blades are accurate the first time, saving you from making repeated passes over the same workpiece.

Flexibility for Cutting Hardwoods, Veneers, and More
The Freud SD508 fits all table saws and radial-arm saws and accommodates a wide range of materials, so you can keep it on hand from project to project. Use it to create dadoes and grooves in hardwood, softwood, chip board, plywood, and laminate (not recommended for non-ferrous materials).

Adjustable Dado and Shim Set for Achieving Perfect Width
Producing the perfect dado is often reliant upon finding the perfect blade width. Designed with that mind, this set virtually doubles the number of slot widths available. First, its adjustable dado allows exceptionally fine-tuned adjustments in 1/32-inch increments. It also features a handy shim set for those jobs that call for even finer blade-width adjustments.

And for greater versatility, the set's six chippers include a unique 3/32-inch chipper along with four 1/8-inch chippers and one 1/16-inch chipper. These chippers' four-wing design is a step above the common two-wing design of most chippers. This means your chippers will work efficiently to remove waste material and smooth the edges of your work pieces.

Anti-Kickback Design for Safe Operation
The quality of this dado set is enhanced by its anti-kickback design, which gives you an added margin of safety while you work.

MicroGrain Carbide Tips for Long-Lasting Performance
So you can get maximum performance out of this set, the blade components are constructed with Freud's TiCo Hi-Density Carbide. This means the blades can withstand numerous sharpenings and still retain their superior precision. And a Tri-metal Brazing process gives the blades impact resistance, so they last for the long term without dulling (a condition that can cause torn wood and uneven cuts).

About the SD500 Product Family
The SD500 series of dado sets cuts everything from veneered plywoods and laminates to solid wood, chip and splinter-free with a super smooth, flat bottom. These dado sets were the first to include a 3/32-inch thick chipper and offer the flexibility of an adjustable dado to handle today’s undersized plywood. This allows the cut width to be adjusted in 1/32-inch increments and doubles the number of slot widths available. A shim set is also included with the dado set for fine adjustments. Use it on all table saws, and radial arm saws for cutting slots, grooves, dadoes, and rabbets in softwood or hardwood

About the SD508 Super Dado
Freud's 8-inch Super Dado set produces smooth, square-bottom grooves and rabbets. Stacked dado sets like this one are more accurate and reliable than wobble dados, which leave a rounded bottom in the groove and can cause splintering and chipping. But Freud's Super Dado set is especially good at producing smooth, chip-free results in plywoods and veneers. This set features Freud's unique kickback-reducing design for safe dadoing even when you're using it in a radial-arm saw. The set includes two outside blades, six four-wing chippers, and a set of shims, and it stores in a handy protective case.

Applications
Use this dado set to cut veneered plywoods, laminates, solid wood, chip and splinter-free woods. This set is not recommended for non-ferrous, ferrous metals, or masonry.

Warranty
Freud blades are covered by a limited lifetime guarantee.

Includes two outside saws and six 4-wing chippers for true flat bottom grooves. Storage case and shim set included. Covered by Freud's Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Customer Reviews

It's definitely a keeper.5
I've used several dado blades before including dial-adjust and stackable sets of different qualities. They all somewhat do the job but not quite I would like them to be. I've been using Systi-Matic blades, and they are very good. But I just could not justify for their $250 dado set or Forrest?s. So I decided to try one of the popular names in the business ? Freud. When the blades arrived in the plastic case, it caught my attention with its weight. None of those I used come close to how much this set weighs. The box is well packed with thick foam in the lid for placing blade during change, each of the eight blades is separated by a plastic spacer when stacked in the case and a set of steel shims. Only suggestion I have is to put marking on shims since there is no way I can tell which is what except the two thickest ones. Yesterday, I had a chance to use this set the first time on my newly purchased DeWalt DW746 table saw to make a piece for helping straighten the floor plank and make grooves in some the inlay pieces I am doing for the master bedroom. I was very much impressed how these blades performed compared to my past experience. Very, very smooth bottom and clean cut (no tear out) all the way and the blades are so sharp that with 1-3/4 hp motor I only need to hold down the piece and push effortlessly. I used walnut and Brizilian cherry by the way. The blade run-out is minimum that I even had a hard time taking them off the arbor if the blade was just off the 90-degree from arbor a little bit. This was my first experience with Freud blade, but I won?t hesitate to use other blades from Freud. It is a keeper for sure.

Smooth, flat dados and dead accurate widths.5
The Super Dado set from Freud is sweet! It's low cost (Compared to it's 'competition') and it's viciously accurate. Just follow the instructions on which chippers to include on the stack and you will cut PRECISELY the width specified. Width resolution of the set just using the chippers is 1/32 of an inch, and shims are provided to do even better than that. However, I've never used the shims. I've never needed them.

I love the plastic case. It comes with little spacers for each blade and chipper. When I need to set my saw up for dadoing I just pull the plastic case out of it's spot, put it on the table saw and pop it open. The top of the case has a flat foam insert that you can put a blade on while you're doing the change, you don't need to keep a piece of wood around to put the blade being changed on

Based on my experience with the Super Dado set, I plan on upgrading all my blades to Freud blades.

Excellent blade5
As I state in most of my reviews, I don't mind paying a little more to get a little more. If you're like me, this is the blade for you. I'm building a built-in wine rack for my house and wanted to use veneer plywood for the carcass. Well, as anyone knows, you need a _damn_ good blade to crosscut a dado in veneer plywood with no tear-out. This blade performed magnificently. Setup was a snap with the chart. Look up the thickness that you need in the manual, and it tells you which size chipper to use in conjunction with the outside blades. The bottom of the dado was so sqaure that you could use it on an exposed joint, such as a bookcase. The top of the dado was razor sharp and the fit was perfect. Also, this comes complete with a nice, metal, shim set. I've used the paper shim set in the past and you can never get a duplicate thickness once you've torn down the blade. Tighten the arbor screw a little more then last time, compress the paper a little mode and , viola, a thinner dado. Not the case with the metal shims here. One last thing to add is the carry case is a nice touch. Each of the blades and chippers are separated with a plastic ring. The entire thing filts in a small brief-case looking case. Again, well worth the money if you don't mind spending it....
