Amazon.com Product Description
Designed for light- to medium-duty trimming of hedges, bushes, and shrubbery, this handy yard maintenance tool from Black & Decker is loaded with features that ensure efficient and safe operation. The lightweight and easy-to-handle TR1700 has a 17-inch steel blade that resists rust and is pre-hardened for longlasting, reliable performance. Most importantly, this blade supplies 3,300 cutting strokes per minute and takes on branches with a diameter measuring up to 3/8 inch. Besides its powerful, reliable performance, the TR1700 is specially designed to prevent some common--and potentially dangerous--problems that can hamper operation. First, a lock-on switch allows for uninterrupted run-time, while a lock-off switch guards against unintended start-ups--a great feature for those with children. Finally, a cord retention system ensures that you won't accidentally unplug the TR1700 as you're working. For added convenience, this tool requires no assembly so it's ready to go right out of the box.

Great little hedge trimmer - light and easy to use 5
This is a great length if you have lots of different shrubs and bushes in your yard. Its important not to have to long of a blade that it becomes unwielding and dangerous. This 17" model is great and its weight adds to the overall enthusiam I have for it.
Nice going Black and Decker.

Bad little trimmer!5
First I must say that I hate Black and Decker, products always break, but I gave this guy a try from the TR1600 and TR1800 review's, I agree from going to HD and Lowe's that Black and Decker's are solid, all other brands I you can see they are flimsy, wasn't sure why there were very few reviews on the 16inch and it is only 29.95?, I am sure its the same beast just different length, yet if anyone knows else wise please post, first suggest get as long of a blade as you can afford, I would have upped for the 17inch, Ok its solid! Cuts great! Seems like sharp blades and a strong motor! The only neg, is the locking button, but this might have been designed as such for safety? Overall 5 stars, 29.95 with free ship is a great deal for a solid cutting beast, very happy cant go wrong! It clawed through thick twigs and cut leaves very clean, B D if this cutter doesn't break in 3-5 yrs I will consider coming back after 15 years! I do see you know how to make trimmers! Just lets see about reliability?

Great Product5
Very happy with the 17" B&D hedge trimmer. Did a little research and found it was highly recommended by Consumers Reports magazine. Had an older version for 15+ years, and it finally gave out. Don't consider a heavy machine unless you're a body builder! After many hours of trimming you'll be glad you chose this size. Longer blade and heavy weight don't help. I have been using this trimmer for about a month now and love it.
