M'm, M'm, Good! .... Oops, Wrong Soup Brand For That Slogan .... Oh, What The Heck, It's True Anyway! :)5
The Progresso Foods Division of General Mills Cereals (LLC) distributes this Chicken Noodle Soup to stores across the United States. This soup is convenient, it's quick, and it comes in its own individual microwavable container (so no other dishes are required; well....except a spoon).

And best of all -- Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup is absolutely delicious! It's certainly one of the tastiest noodle soups I've ever eaten. I haven't tried any of the other soups in the "microwavable bowl" Progresso line (and there are several others), but I definitely keep coming back for more of the Chicken Noodle product. It's a little on the expensive side, but the flavor and microwavable convenience are things that make these Progresso bowls worth the extra cost (IMO).

This soup provides an ample amount of tender chicken. And it's 100% "Roasted White Meat" too, and it's very good. I haven't yet run into a piece of gristle or fat when eating this product. They've done a great job of putting only premium-quality chicken pieces in this soup.

This soup also contains the normal other ingredients that usually accompany a Chicken Noodle soup -- Egg noodles (of course), carrots, celery, and a little bit of parsley.

For an extra taste boost (and to stretch the yummy contents of the bowl even further), try adding some diced potatoes to this soup. A few taters being tossed into the bowl make this soup taste even better (in my opinion anyway). I have to eat about a third of the soup first, though, before adding the potatoes, because the bowl is filled to the brim when it's first opened, so there's no room for a morsel of anything else until the level is reduced.

Progresso's soup bowls come packaged with a vented snap-on plastic lid, which should be placed back on the bowl while microwaving (after carefully removing the metal pull-top lid), in order to keep down the inevitable splatter that always occurs when chicken is heated at full microwave power.

The plastic lid can give a person fits, though, in that it can be difficult to initially remove. I have found that a small portion of the "Why Won't This Darn Thing Come Off?!" agony can be avoided by squeezing the bowl with one hand while prying up the lid with your other hand (in an inch-by-inch manner all the way around the bowl). Sometimes this method works for me anyway. Maybe it will for other people too.*

* = Throwing the container against the wall in order to loosen the lid is not recommended however; the bowl weighs almost one full pound before opening, so an angry toss across the room could very well result in some plaster damage which would certainly cost more to repair than the price of this food product. (Just a little kitchen/soup humor there.) ~wink~

Each 15.25-ounce Progresso container holds 2 individual servings (per the product's nutrition label anyway). But, let's face facts, whenever one of these official nutrition labels claims something makes two servings, it realistically means: "Almost Everybody Who Eats This Is Gonna Gobble Down This Whole Package". :)

That's the case here. While the serving size, per the label, is listed as "1 cup" (240 grams), it's quite easy to wolf down the entire bowl in one sitting. I'm guessing that most people who partake in this product feel the same way.

But, even when the serving size listed on the label is doubled, this Progresso soup still yields only a moderate amount of total fat and calories. Per the listed stats, if you eat this whole bowl of soup, you'll be consuming a little less than 180 calories, and less than 4 total grams of fat (with less than 1 gram of that being saturated fat). Not bad at all.

So, if you want a good, quick meal that's not loaded with fat and other undesirable foodstuffs, pop a bowl of Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup into the microwave. And in about two minutes, you'll have lunch. (Assuming you can get the darn lid off the thing before your lunch hour is over.) :-)

Labor-Intensive Packaging Seems to Compromise a Simple Cup of Soup3
Progresso has come out with what seems to be a single-serving cup of its chicken noodle soup, although the label states absurdly that it contains two servings. It isn't so much the allotted amount that bothers me as the presumption that the user will actually eat half of the cup and store the rest. I prefer the one-person, one-time convenience provided by the Japanese ramen companies. The familiar Progresso flavor is hearty with the thick egg noodles, chunks of white meat chicken and slices of carrot and celery. The broth is not too salty, but the problem I have with it is proportion. There seems to be a lot of broth compared to the solid ingredients settled at the bottom. The cup is also filed to capacity, which makes it difficult to handle without spilling.

I also don't care for the rather elaborate packaging. It comes with a tight-fitting plastic lid which is quite difficult to pull off without using both hands. Once off, you have the precarious task of pulling off a potentially blood-letting metal tab that is near-impossible to master without using a stable surface. You need to pull it off in two steps - the first to make sure it comes off the container and the second to jiggle it until it comes completely off. This two-step maneuver virtually ensures that a spill will occur, so have a paper towel handy. Once you put the plastic lid back on for the microwave, it takes two minutes to heat, but you have to wait another minute to avoid potentially burning your fingers from the metal lip once exposed. It just seems like a lot of precautions to get to a cup of soup, but if you are a fan of the company, I'm sure you'll find it worthwhile.

Delicious comfort food5
Progresso has it over its competition when it comes to chicken noodle soup. It's rich, with chunks of chicken and vegetables.
