Royal Doulton???s world renowned Nurseryware product category began with the introduction of Bunnykins Nurseryware in 1934. Bunnykins began when Sister Mary Barbara (Barbara Vernon), a young nun in an English convent school imagined and illustrated the exploits of the Bunnykins family to entertain the children in her class. Her father, Cuthbert Bailey, was the manager of Royal Doulton???s Burslem pottery in Stoke-on-Trent and recognized the potential of her rabbit drawings for a range of Nurseryware and adapted her sketches for the lithographic printing process. Barbara Vernon only produced Bunnykins drawings for a few years because of her commitments at the convent. Walter Hayward, one of Royal Doulton???s Art Directors, took over the range after World War II. In 2004, Bunnykins Nurseryware celebrated its 70th Anniversary and continues to be one of the world???s oldest, most beloved and best-selling Nurseryware ranges. The innocent and whimsical subject matter has worldwide recognition and consumer appeal. Made of fine china, Bunnykins Nurseryware is dishwasher, microwave, freezer and oven safe -- making it more durable and versatile than plastic or melamine nurseryware.
