Amazon.com Product Description
The Fiskars PowerLever 25-inch easy reach bypass pruner is an ideal choice for pruning roses and other dense or thorny plants. The bypass blade provides a cleaner cut for living green growth, and the unique low-profile design allows the user to safely reach into plants to prune. The additional reach also helps to prevent muscle strain, and the extended handle allows for one or two-handed use for added strength and comfort. In addition, the pruner features Fiskars' patented PowerLever technology--a patented four-point pivot design--which reduces cutting effort by 50-percent. The fully-hardened stainless steel blade is non-stick coated for smooth and clean cuts and can cut branches up to 3/4-inches in diameter.

Very handy pruners
I really like these pruners. They let you get the cutting head into the plant without jamming your hand into the plant too. Great for "torny" plants like roses, but also great for general pruning. They make it a lot easier to see what you are cutting too.
They are pretty solid... plastic for the most part with metal cutting heads and hardware. The cutting heads seem very sharp. At the end of the handle there is a safety lever to keep the cutting head closed.
(Update 2006/11: These are my favorite pruners of all time. I use them for just about everything. The long handle is very, very handy.)
awesome garden pruner
For those of you who are tired of being stuck and cut by your rose bushes this is the greatest pruner ever. I did two complete rose gardens and was not hurt once. Enabled me to get to hard to reach areas easily. They cut quickly and sharply. My hand was not fatigued despite having carpal tunnel. Bought another pair as a gift for family. I highly recommend this item.
Innovative, Brilliant, A Must Have Garden Gadget!
I didn't mean to buy these, but they came in a bundled set a few years ago at Costco and I thought it would end up collecting dust. I thought it was interesting, but hardly something I would bother purchasing separately. Little did I know that it would end up as my favorite garden cutter. As the reviewers have mentioned, it allows you to reach into shrubs and trees to reach difficult branches. The narrow profile and small cutting head allows you to get up to the joint of a branch to make a clean cut from a safe distance (Roses, Barberry, Spireas, etc.). It also extends your reach when cutting branches in lower growing fruit trees. The handle is almost entirely plastic, but it's light and rugged with a claps that keeps it shut when not in use.
My only gripe is the nature of the collapsing handle which pinches when cutting through thicker branches. You may want to wear gloves while using these, but otherwise it's not a major issue and I don't find it to be bothersome.
