Customer Reviews
Attractive visually, stylish texture, pleasantly coarse underfoot--perks up a room
I had a bit of trouble with my very pretty Anji Mountain Villager bamboo area rug (5x8). Cracking of the tiny bamboo strips, leaving "bald" little rectangles.
So, having already purchased the seagrass mat for my kitchen and liking its coarse weave and solid feel, I decided to get it in the 5x8 for the living room.
Very, very attractive. Hubby likes it a lot, too. The border is a nice, warm, medium-earthy brown (not dark or chocolatey). The grass has variations in color, so it looks slightly, what?, irridescent? It's hard to explain, but it's a pretty effect that seems somewhat reflective. It's not too rough for bare feet (I never wear shoes at home), but it's not silky/velvetty/smooth. It's a grassy roughness.
Note that it also has a strong grassy smell when you get it at first (hubby said, "It smells like salad in here.") This should fade. I remember the smell being very strong when I bought the mats for the kitchen, and they have faded.
A really beautiful rug that is durable/strong looking and lies nicely over our carpeting.
If you are used to eating off tray tables, as we are, in front of the telly, be advised that the coarse, ropey weave will make it hard to slide tables. The tables stand fine on the rug, but we need to grip the table leg and top to slide them in and out. Not a big deal, but you should be aware that they will affect the "roll-ability/slide-ability" of whatever you set on the rug.
I really like this product so far. While I adored the smoothness and woody prettiness of the bamboo, it just was too fragile for us. This is the fourth item we've purchased on amazon from Anji Mountain, and all have been very attractive. I've had no problem with the chocolate bamboo mat (so pretty) or the seagrass ones, but I will caution that the bamboo can crack (as with my Villager style, which is best used in a very light-traffic area). The seagrass is made to endure hard-traffic, looks like. I'll update if any problems occur.
