Product Description

The Original PETaPOTTY is our top of the line product made of attractive, sturdy, non-absobant, polyvinyl material. Its outer dimensions are 34" by 34" (approximate dimensions +/- 3/4"), just short of 3' by 3'. This unit features a concealed trap pan that allows for the collection of water and your pet's urine. The trap pan is easily accesible, which allows for no hassle cleaning. This product is great for small dogs who like to sniff around before they "mark their territory," or larger dogs who just need to do their business. The Original PETaPOTTY is perfect for any size dog (110lbs or less) you may have. The PETaPOTTY is the only lawn toilet system for your pet that has a drainage system. The PETaPOTTY system is designed to contain pet waste in a designated area. It is useful for housebreaking your puppy, providing your dog its own place to go potty, and providing a potty area for other pets that like grass. The PETaPOTTY allows your pet to have the ability to relieve himself whenever necessary without being punished. Did you know that many dogs do not only have to potty two or three times a day, but actually need to go several times a day? With the PETaPOTTY your dog or other pet is allowed to go as often as needed. The PETaPOTTY is available in three different sizes with more sizes on the way, and is available with real or synthetic grass.

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #208492 in Kitchen & Housewares
  • Ingredients: *NOTE: These do not come with wheels We recommend using a soiless sod for your PETaPOTTY. The soiless sod works best with the PETaPOTTY because it does not leave a mess on the unit, its easy to maintain, and it can last you up to six months (sometimes even longer)!! The soiless sod (as pictured) is uniques because it only has two layers, the grass blades and the roots tightly bound together. It is called soiless because it lacks the one inch layer of soil found on regular sod. You can use any sod that you wish, but we recommend the Marathon Lite sod because after testing a variety of sod we found that this one works the best. You can be sure that our sod is fresh because we pick up our sod from the sod farms in Ventura!**Please note: Due to weather conditions (rain) we may not be able to obtain the sod during some weeks. If the fields are flooded, we are unable to harvest sod.*** Some customers also purchase one piece of the synthetic grass to use in times when the real sod is unable to be harvested because of rain, or also in times when they are waiting for the real grass to ship

Perfect for the Apartment or Condo dweller!5
Okay, I really don't understand what the beef is with the two people that reviewed this product. Maybe they are from a competing company?

I have owned my PetaPotty for a year now.

There are a number of potty products on the market for pets. This was one of the first. I did exhaustive research on which one to buy. In the end, I choose the original PetaPotty.

First, let me you you, 3 feet by 3 feet is much larger than you anticipate. I have one Boston Terrier (soon to be two) and the unit is by far large enough for him. Once I get my new pup I think the unit will be the perfect size.

From the start I choose to go with the synthetic turf. Although (to me) it is nothing like grass, it seems to do the job. There are holes in the bottom of the turn and slats in the bottom of the PetaPotty, so all urine and water seep through and are captured in a tray below.

The tray is large! Too large for the unit, in my opinion. It is fairly difficult to remove from the unit if it is moderately full of water after rinsing. So if you plan on carrying it through the house and dumping it in a toilet/sink/bathtub, I would recommend you go with a smaller model. If you plan on just pulling it out of the unit and dumping it off your patio, the size is just fine.

Now, the biggest issue is the smell. People that have yards for their dog even notice that if you go near where they do their business, there is a distinct smell. Teaching my dog that this new potty was where he needed to go was a breeze. He understood in the very first day, even liked it! I was overcome with joy until about a week later it began stinking worse than anything I have ever smelled! A little research revealed that you should rinse out the potty and empty it on a daily basis. Whoops!

Even after rinsing it daily, the smell is still a battle, although MUCH easier to handle. I found the more you rinse it, the less it smells. If I were to rinse it twice a day instead of once, I doubt there would be much smell at all.

I pick up poop every day as well. If you leave it on the potty your dog will end up stepping in it. They love the unit so much they WON'T even considering doing their business elsewhere.

Also, I forgot to mention that the unit is not just a cheep piece of plastic. It is large and sturdy, and VERY heavy. I was hardly able to lift it myself! (I am 5'11" tall and weigh 190lbs, televisions are usually a breeze for me!).

So to review:
-- The unit is large. The original size (3x3) is large enough to handle two dogs (25lbs or under).
-- It requires a lot of maintenance. It must be rinsed at least once a day to battle bad smells, and should be deep cleaned about once a month or so.
-- Every dog I have at my house LOVES the unit. Even if they haven't been trained by me they go directly to the PetaPotty to do their business.
-- It is the perfect potty solution for people without yards, such as condo or apartment dwellers. So long as you have a patio, that is. I could never imagine keeping it indoors. The smell would be too much to handle (not to mention the risk of spilling it when you empty it!)
-- It is a sturdy unit, not made of cheep or flimsy plastic.
