Product Description

PocketDock AV is the newest member of the SendStation PocketDock family. Incredibly compact, it is one of the most versatile and mobile iPod adapters ever. It syncs, it charges, it connects your iPod to your stereo, it outputs your iPod video to the big screen. PocketDock AV does all this by taking advantage of the 30-pin dock connector on the bottom of your iPod which provides superior audio/video output. Unlike other products that output a composite video signal via the headphone jack, PocketDock AV is able to output an S-Video signal. The S-Video image is sharper, has cleaner colors and reveals much more detail. Likewise, PocketDock AV allows you to connect your iPod to your existing home stereo (or car stereo, too) with zero compromise in sound quality. PocketDock's industry-standard 3.5 mm (1/8") stereo jack connects directly to the iPod's line level circuitry by utilizing the 30-pin dock connector -- so it's just like the Apple Dock, but in a tiny, easy-to-carry package.

Marvelous Device5
The Sendstation Ipod dock has been very useful to me. I have been converting so much of my music collection onto Ipod. I have been using the Sendstation Ipod Dock to hook up the Ipod to an earphone amplifer and then to headphones. The increased sound quality is a revelation--even on Mp3. When you use the Sendstation Ipod Dock, you are circumventing the headphone jack and headphone amplifer that comes built into the Ipod, i.e. you control the volume from the headphone amplifer, the wheel on the Ipod will no longer control the volume. You avoid the limitations and distortion present in the new Ipod classic internal headphone amplifier. However, when you use the Sendstation Ipod Dock you are essentially converting the Ipod itself into a stereo component that has a "line output." That is why the increase in sound is practically overwhelming. You then need to plug the Sendstation Ipod Dock into a headphone amplifier--if for no other reason than to control the volume. As a "line output," the volume will blow you away and you cannot control it because you have circumvented the headphone jack and internal headphone amplifer.

I recommend the Airhead headphone amplifer. It is approximately $100.00 and operates on 4 AAA batteries. You must then get a small wire to connect the Sendstation Ipod Dock to the Ipod. You run your headphones out of the headphone amplifer. The Airhead actually has two outputs so that two people can listen to the Ipod.

You might say why spend an additional $130.00 ($100.00 for headphone amplifer and $30 for Sendstation Pocket Dock) plus postage for the Sendstation Ipod Dock and for an Airhead headphone amplifier (or some other comparable amplifer. You can get C-Moy headphone amplifier clones for as little as $35.00 on Ebay)? Well the small headphone amplifiers are small enough to fit in a shirt pocket right next to your Ipod Classic or Nano, so it is small enough. Second, the increase in sound is revelatory--good enough to replace a high end stereo system. I think to have music sound this good, I would need to spend $3,500.00 for speakers and another $1,000 for an amplifier along with computer and Sonos controller. Now you are talking thousands of dollars to get this kind of sound that you can get from an Ipod. You just need to record your music in a "loss-less" setting or "wave file" setting as allowed in the Itunes software. I would also recommend a great set of ear canal phones or over the head headphones. You will not believe how wonderful your music will sound. Also, as with any Ipod, the convenience of mobility is great.

Seriously, the Sendstation Ipod Dock along with the Airhead has changed how I listen to an Ipod. You will hear details in your music that you never knew was there.

Note that PocketDock AV does not support audio or video line out on iPhones!3
Hi, note that this will charge an iPhone 3G but won't support video or audio line out. SendStation's website was ambiguous about this, but right now it definitely doesn't work for iPhones. The product description is a little clearer now than when I ordered it, but should really explicitly say that it does not support iPhones.
