I use these pads underneath litter boxes sitting on hardwood floors. One of the kitties is 18 and he sometimes stands too close to the edge of the box. I also drove a couple of small nails into the wall behind one of the boxes and now hang a pad on the nails to protect the wall too.
I change them daily along with cleaning the boxes ( we have three cats) and they work great.
