Product Description

Iso•Cool™ pillows and mattress toppers feature Outlast® Adaptive Comfort® material that adjusts to the body's changing temperature. The microscopic Phase Change Material (PCM) beads sense whether the body's mean temperature is too warm or too cool. If the body's temperature is too warm, the product absorbs heat and feels cool in order to regulate body temperature. If the body's temperature is too cool, the product releases heat and feels warm in order to regulate the body temperature. Carpenter Co.'s Iso•Cool products feature the highest available concentration of PCMs, making them extremely effective. Iso•Cool pillows are available in two luxurious and supportive fills: spiral-spun polyester and visco-elastic foam. The Iso•Cool mattress topper is available as a polyester cover or as a 3-inch, high-density visco-elastic foam mattress pad with a polyester cover.

Some mechanical issues with foam mattress.3
This mattress pad does a great job doing what it's supposed to do. When you lay down on this thing, you can feel it suck the heat out of your body, and it works well at regulating your body temperature throughout the night. My schedule recently had been forcing me to work out shortly before going to sleep, causing heat flashes in the middle of the night. Using this product, those hot flashes pretty much went away entirely.
So it definitely works well for it's intended purpose. It does not, however, work well as a mattress pad. It simply doesn't really offer any additional cushioning.
And I found that it simply does not work well with my foam bed. The mattress pad has a tendency to creep throughout the night, causing both it and the fitted sheet over it to bunch up rather easily. This happens even when it is placed directly on the foam bed. I suspect that this is because the fitted sections of the mattress pad are made of spandex, which doesn't really work well at keeping the pad in place.
I have not tried this on a traditional mattress, but I suspect that it wouldn't be as much of a problem with one.

Chillin!5
Well it definitely works... As I understand it the material first absorbs your body heat- why it feels cool to the touch at first. Note it does not STAY cool it merely comes to your body temperature and then maintains it...like a thermostat!

That way if you get hotter due to too much cheap wine during dinner, it will absorb the excess heat you throw off and keep you "cool". So really it acts to Stabilize your body temperature rather than acting as a refridgerator.

The pad is adequately stuffed and definitely fits on a king size even with 17" depth due to the stretchy elastic corner pockets. It does move after a night but so far I haven't felt it bunching uncomfortably under me during the night.

So whether you like cheap wine or have a sleeping companion(wife or dog) who is an oven, you will be CHILLIN and perhaps even able to save a little on the AC bill!!!

Cool? I think not.1
When you first touch the mattress pad, it is cool... just like any other pad. But when you lie on it for awhile, it accumulates your body heat and radiates it back to you... just like any other pad. It also bunches up and pulls my sheet up with it. I guess I'll give it one star because it's soft... but I'm still moving around the bed each night looking for new cool spots and this was an expensive experiment to find one.
