Customer Reviews
Reverse the discs and you'll like it a LOT more.
Yes, as posted here by many others, this is not a really strong representation of The Cure. It completely zaps a few important songs that WERE hits, like "Pictures of You" and "Hot Hot Hot," and hardly scratches the surface of the pre-MTV era Cure. If you need those songs, get "Staring At The Sea" and "Galore" as a twofer.
On the other hand, if you're a Cure buff, the bonus disc is a treat. All 18 songs from the "Hits" disc, played out acoustically and live in studio. The band sounds loose and chipper, obviously having a jolly good time with songs they've done to death. I'd have bought THAT as a single disc without any complaints! So just consider the live CD the main attraction and the studio "A" disc as the bonus. You'll like "Greatest Hits" a lot more that way.
CD1: redone, CD2: disappointing
As the owner of over 60 Cure CD's, of course I had to get this one. However, after listening to them, I wish I'd spent the money on something worthwhile.
CD1: Been there, done that.
CD2: [The real motive for this purchase, no?] Well it's always fun to hear your favorite songs done in a different way. HOWEVER, these tracks are so hard to listen to, I couldn't hardly finish the CD. There are a couple tracks that are *almost* palatable, but in general they are so *uninspired* it's embarrassing. Coming soon to an elevator near you... Also, to ensure you are clear on this, this 'unplugged' CD, is NOT the same as the "MTV Unplugged" acoustical performance which was absolutely beautiful (and not really available commercially).
Note to Cure curious: Spend your money on ANY other CD from this wonderful band.
Note to Cure hardcore: Don't spend your money on these CDs only to get a weird feeling about the band.
Note to Robert: Shame on you! Even if you weren't "into" making these tracks, you should have at least tried for the sake of the fans. You've NEVER let me down with your live performances. Oh yeah, and you don't have to e-n-u-n-c-i-a-t-e your words to the point of speaking them my friend.
unplugged = fantastic
I really like the bonus unplugged CD. The band seems to have a lot of fun playing the music and the songs really stand on their own once stripped of the synth and production. Made me appreciate the Cure in a brand new way.
