FIVESTARDIVE STUCK BETWEEN THESE LINES (35:29 min.) SELFRELEASE / US-IMPORT This east coast-combo I've found on the net, where they've called their own sound "alternative goth rock". It has been a gothic/metal-site where I've looked for new bands, but the 11-track-promo for the official debut that I've found in my PO-box a few weeks after contacting the band, tells something totally different. No way that this band is metal! But everything else you can find in the sound of that 4-piece. With "Stuck Between These Lines" you can do a time-voyage to the eighties and with that attractive mixture of alternative, gothic, rock and lots of pop with even a small dose of punk-influences not only a voyage between the times but also between musical dimensions. But be sure about one thing: Fivestardive are good musicians, they compose interesting songs, they try to mix the genres, the sound is rich of the use of synthesizers and though their lyrics deal with frustration and depression, with anger and despair, with loneliness and suicide Fivestardive is not heavy. It's more of the opposite. But anyone who likes the 80s synth pop-world should be sure to check Fivestardive. I needed a while to make a comparison, especially cause I grew up with metal and punk and I am not so familiar with other genres, but I think I've never heard a band that sounded that much like The Cure...besides The Cure themselves. I have to admit that I really like the sound...as an orientation I give seven points. Try my favorite, "8:05" which is something between The Cure, Flock Of Seagulls and Soft Cell.
