The Soundmatters SLIMstage40 is an ultra slim low profile 5.1 surround bar for anyone looking for a great home theater experience without the need for speakers around the room, or a separate AV amplifier. Designed to tuck discretely above or below a flatpanel TV, it switches audio inputs for up to six different sources (3 digital and 3 analog) and it's 170Wrms of built-in power drives individual patented front and rear channel speakers plus 3 sets of internal bass arrays, each incorporating 1 active and 2 passive woofers). SLIMstage's proprietary EuphonyHD (TM) circuitry creates surround from most audio signals including: PCM 2.0, Dolby Pro Logic, DTS and DTS 5.1...and no reflecting walls are required. Designed to be simple to both install and operate, SLIMstage includes some great remote-control features such as: NIGHT LISTENING, DIALOG+, BASS LEVEL, separate HEADPHONE VOLUME control. A SETUP menu is offered for more advanced features and customization. Developed exclusively for SLIMstage through a joint effort initiated by Dr. Hareo Hamada, president of DiMAGIC, Inc. and soundmatters founder Dr. Godehard Guenther, Euphony HD is an advanced technology which produces a well-developed 5.1-channel surround soundstage with a clear center-channel image - no walls are required. From a single cabinet, Euphony HD not only faithfully reproduces Dolby Digital and DTS, but also creates a realistic 5.1 sound field from 2.1 and analog signals.

Differences between SLIMstage models

While the SLIMstage series models are functionally identical, their size determines degree of bass and sound pressure level (SPL). Each SLIMstage incorporates unique mini-woofer modules which utilize a Linear Magnetic Drive woofer aided by a pair of like-sized passive radiators in a sealed enclosure. The width determines the number of woofer modules utilized in the bass array. And, as one might expect, the more bass modules, the more bass and overall SPL capability.

The hardest task for all small sound systems is achieving musical, detailed, low bass. All SLIMstage models have practically flat bass reponse down to below 50Hz. This astounding bandwidth is accomplished by soundmatters Extreme-Energy neodymium sandwich, miniature bass speakers.

Slimstage soundbar
I'm very happy with this product. However, I would definitely recommend getting a Substage 100 to go along with the Slimstage. The Substage 100 is a small subwoofer that will help out with the low-end of the range. It's very hard for a soundbar to produce the real low bass frequencies, so the Substage makes a big difference. And the two products are made by the same company (Soundmatters), so they work well together. Overall, this setup will add lots of enjoyment to your movie-watching!
