Nothing will ever match the achievement of the 'Rivers and Mountains' through 'As We Know' period, but every book of Ashbery's is still worth having, and he still puts most younger poets to shame.

A fantastically entertaining career retrospective from an endlessly inventive and unfairly overlooked poet.

Formalism lives! And many of these poems live, and breathe, and impress the heck out of me.

I skipped over his last couple -- though 'Repair' is also very good -- to go back to this, Williams' masterpiece. You need to read it.

When will Hass give us another book? In the meantime, though, this one's great, possibly his best (though 'Praise' & 'Human Wishes' both vie.)

Sometimes difficult, always interesting, and utterly unique. If you haven't read McMichael, do yourself the favor of checking him out.
