The Ultramarines Omnibus (Warhammer 40,000 Omnibus)The Ultramarines Omnibus (Warhammer 40,000 Omnibus) by Graham McNeill
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $3.74
All in all and entertaining read. Like the other Omnibuses (plaural of Omnibus?) You get 3 books for the price of one and shipping. 800 pages to last you a couple days.
Sons of Fenris (Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf)Sons of Fenris (Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf) by Lee Lightner
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.47
I actually read this before the Omnibus, which drove me to purchase the 850 page monster of Russ. It has a lot of sniffing and some political intrigue. Also, GORE. Read it.
The Soul Drinkers Omnibus (Warhammer 40,000 Novels)The Soul Drinkers Omnibus (Warhammer 40,000 Novels) by Ben Counter
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $4.57
I've been trying to finish this thing for a while now randomly picking it up at work when it's slow. I don't know why, but it's a lot harder to 'get into' then a lot of other novels. I read them to be fast paced and completely unchallenging intellectually. This one throws me.
Grey Knights (Warhammer 40,000 Novels)Grey Knights (Warhammer 40,000 Novels) by Ben Counter
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
Following the space worlf series with the Grey Knights was entertaining. Completely different aspects of the Astartes. Like the transition from Ultramarines to Wolves. A lot more chaos and some good fighting.
Lord of the Night (Warhammer 40,000)Lord of the Night (Warhammer 40,000) by Simon Spurrier
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.74
Loved this book. Really dug into the leanings towards the 'false history' that the Black Library has been running with the Horus Heresy. This is a future reference with some great torture scenes etc. that I got through in about 4-5 days.
Faith and Fire (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Only War)Faith and Fire (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Only War) by James Swallow
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.89
Picked this up in a BX while deployed to Afghanistan (the re-birth of my 40K reading spree). Way back when I remember reading about the sisters in the old play guides when I was trying to field an Arbite and agent army. That G-Works finally made them a reality was awesome.
Eye of Terror (Warhammer 40,000 Novels)Eye of Terror (Warhammer 40,000 Novels) by Barrington J. Bayley
Buy used from: $4.74
Finally read it and enjoyed it. Great sidetrack after working through so many pages of Astartes war and the like. I liked the drop down to regular ignorant citizenry.
The Warhammer 40,000 Quiz Book: A bumper book of 40K brain busters (Warhammer 40, 000)The Warhammer 40,000 Quiz Book: A bumper book of 40K brain busters (Warhammer 40, 000) by Marc Gascoigne
Buy used from: $13.94
I just wanted to comment.. come on dude, I mean really.. some things are just too much to pull off.
First and Only (Warhammer 40,000 Novels)First and Only (Warhammer 40,000 Novels) by Dan Abnett
Buy used from: $0.37
I read this with some anticipation of finishing out the series, but never did. I like Abnett's style, but a part of that style is killing EVERYONE. For a stand alone read it, for a series it bothered me. How can you kill 20% of an army that has no re-enforcements for 4-5 books straight and still field for battle? Maybe the death toll is less in the other books.
Space Wolf Omnibus: Spacewolf / Ragnar's Claw / Grey Hunter (Warhammer 40,000)Space Wolf Omnibus: Spacewolf / Ragnar's Claw / Grey Hunter (Warhammer 40,000) by William King
Buy new: $12.59 / Used from: $4.25
I found the first book in a North Dakota public library of all places. Couldn't believe it considering the complete lack of anything else there. Liked it enough I baught the Omnibus. So far it's the best I've picked up of those out there. Never was a huge Space Wolf fan, but I dug the action and love seeing chaos in print.. too bad they obviously had to lose.
Eisenhorn (A Warhammer 40,000 Omnibus)Eisenhorn (A Warhammer 40,000 Omnibus) by Dan Abnett
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $4.58
Still haven't read it. Sitting on the shelf. It's really good at sitting on shelves though, for a recommendation.
The Flight of the Eisenstein (Horus Heresy)The Flight of the Eisenstein (Horus Heresy) by James Swallow
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.99
It's on order. Reveiw later.
Horus Rising (The Horus Heresy)Horus Rising (The Horus Heresy) by Dan Abnett
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.50
Picked this up as well in Afghanistan. This is the direction of story line I always had the most interest in. Falsehood of history, the fall of chaos. Best written of the series.
False Gods: The Heresy Takes Root (The Horus Heresy)False Gods: The Heresy Takes Root (The Horus Heresy) by Graham McNeill
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.98
Good secondary. Things get more interesting and the story kept me interested. I like the change of flavor switching authors.
Galaxy in Flames (Horus Heresy)Galaxy in Flames (Horus Heresy) by Ben Counter
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.98
Had to read. The first three were good enough that they didn't last me more then a day or two, but then I slacked. It may have been because book 4 was in production, but it ran down a bit also.
The Wheel of Time (Boxed Set #1)The Wheel of Time (Boxed Set #1) by Robert Jordan
Buy new: $15.62 / Used from: $15.99
Read these first three originally when I was in my young teens and became hooked, like most suckers. I had no idea at the time the series wasn't finished. Stupid teenager.
The Wheel of Time (Boxed Set #2)The Wheel of Time (Boxed Set #2) by Robert Jordan
Buy new: $16.30 / Used from: $10.99
After the first three those that were keeping track had to wait some time to be somewhat disapointed. Through the 6th book though things were still getting horribly complicated and more enrapting. Jordan can make walking into a room take 12 pages, so you're assualted by so many details you have to read on.
The Wheel of Time (Boxed Set #3)The Wheel of Time (Boxed Set #3) by Robert Jordan
Buy new: $16.30 / Used from: $12.80
It's around this point in the series where you can't get out. The books slowly and surely begin to turn into crap, but you've invested 6k pages of reading and so many rooms, family stories, etc. to give up. So many people out there are on the same boat as me.
Crossroads of Twilight (Wheel of Time, Book 10)Crossroads of Twilight (Wheel of Time, Book 10) by Robert Jordan
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.50
I had to wait for this book to be published. After not touching a Jordan novel for 1-2 years I started on page one and realized I still remembered all the characters and storyline. It was amazing and I hated myself a little. Lord I would settle for Jordan killing everyone in 20 pages, I just want an end to this story so I can brain dump. But still it WAS a huge escape.
New Spring: The Novel (Wheel of Time)New Spring: The Novel (Wheel of Time) by Robert Jordan
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01
This was a book that came late in the series written for before the series, and really didn't have to happen. I wanted to say his wife had a lot to do it, or someone else.. that is probably a lesbian. Neglecting the fact most of the world of WoT is somewhat devoid of sexuality to be dropped into casual lesbian affairs of younger versions of future/present characters gave me the WTF's.
Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 1)Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 1) by Frank Herbert
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
Picked this book up once or twice at a thrift store. Finally read it between 40k books. I now, officially, have read dune.
Dune Messiah (Dune Chronicles, Book 2)Dune Messiah (Dune Chronicles, Book 2) by Frank Herbert
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
Jumped right into the second book and wasn't disapointed. Storyline gets more complicated and is enough to keep you interested. Hence Sci-Fi network deeming it worthwhile to throw together movies up to this point.
Children of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 3)Children of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 3) by Frank Herbert
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
Really the end of the public exposure to Dune if you've watched the different movies. If you read up to this point you should probably stop. This is far enough to know what parts you hate about the movies and why they're wrong without making your head hurt.
God Emperor of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 4)God Emperor of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 4) by Frank Herbert
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
I don't know why I kept reading.
Heretics of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 5)Heretics of Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 5) by Frank Herbert
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
I just had to. My 40k books weren't doing the trick. Walden had Sci-Fi on sale and Dune was the only thing I didn't have and was reading.
Chapterhouse Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 6)Chapterhouse Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 6) by Frank Herbert
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01
Right here is where I realised it was Robert Jordan all over again. I had read a couple thousand pages to learn all this crazy trivia about things that don't exist that it cost me some long term memories of childhood. I can't not finish a series though, so I did, and I've been trying to give it to a friend for 6 months now. No one will fall for it.
