I remember there was this kid in one of my college classes that wanted to be a big-time Hollywood director. The teacher asked him what his favorite movie was. The kid said, "I don't know about my favorite movie, but I can tell you the worst movie ever made: This Asian movie called 'Infection'." Rundown? Hollywood kid HATES this movie. All the more reason to see it.

When I saw this in the theatres, my friend and I were the only ones there. Pardon my cliche, but we were literally on the edge of our seats. This movie is aptly named. The scene near the end (with the car and chainsaw) was so beautifully shot; the spouting blood mixed with the weilding chainsaw looked like some performance art dance.

A movie that plays up the creep factor by not revealing anything to the audience at all. As we all know, the images we create in our heads are for more terrifying than anything that can be produced onto celluloid.

Someone told me this movie was horrible. When I saw it, I paused the movie halfway through, turned to my friend and said, "This movie better start getting bad because I'm really liking it."

A mindbending Canadian flick. Beautifully shot psycho-thriller. A psychiatrist is tested by one of her patients to the brink of insanity.

In a time where horror films are loud and flashy, this entry in the genre takes you on a wild ride in Alaska where all you see around you is white. You can actually feel how cold and bitter it is just by watching it.

Easily one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. I was quite amazingly speechless once this movie was finished. One critic stated that this movie "is the new yard stick against which all forms of extreme genre films should be measured against."

This film brings monsters back to the horror genre, and dismisses yawn-worthy slashers and torture flicks. If you miss FX creatures, then this movie is for you.

I saw this one about five years ago in a desolate camp out in the middle of nowhere. I'm not quite sure if the circumstances helped the creep factor out just a little bit or not, either way, it scared the crap out of me. If being scared while alone and engulfed by trees is your cup of tea, I recommend watching this one.

This is probably one of my favorite Takashi Miike projects, next to "The Box" which was a short made for "The Three... Extremes". This is the only "Masters of Horror" episode that actually feels like the auteur's work, and not Showtime's. "Imprint" was banned from television for a while, due to its disturbing images of torture, incest, rape and abortions.

"Love Object" is kind of depressing. A shy, introverted man purchases a blow-up doll, which eventually comes in between him and his girlfriend. He must decided between intimacy with reality or intimacy with synthetics.

It's up to you to decide what's going on in this foxhole of a British army. Scary images of corpses wrapped in barbed wire agonize those at war. But are they at war with the enemy or at war with themselves?

I think that Angela Bettis is one of the greatest actresses of all time. I've always said that they should stop giving Jennifer Aniston movie roles and give them to someone who can actually act. Everything I've seen Bettis in, she's played characters who are polars apart from each other, and hadn't even realized it was her until halfway through the movie.

Though not really a "horror movie" per se, it's suspenseful and cringe-worthy enough to be apart of the list. Four words: 30 minute castration scene.

A hard film to sit through. So disturbing and extremely brilliant at the same time. What makes it so uneasy to watch is knowing that it was purportedly based on real events.

Before "Hellboy" and "Pan's Labyrinth", there was "The Devil's Backbone". Guillermo del Toro superbly weaves in a chilling ghost story into a movie about the Spanish Civil War.

Some of the biggest complaints I get about this movie is that it's "slow". "Slow" doesn't mean "bad", people! It's about a couple stranded in the middle of the ocean! All you hear are birds and the waves sloshing around. There isn't going to be any diegetic rock music playing because they're in the middle of the damn ocean. It's all about atmosphere.

People will go to great lengths to retrieve their once youthful vanity. "Dumplings" tells the story of a "chef", for lack of a better word, that creates age-defying dumplings. Once you find out what's in those dumplings, you won't want to eat for a week.

I'm usually not a fan of gratuitous gore, but this movie has enough creepy tension to balance the bloodshed. This is unlike ANYTHING I have seen us Americans do.
