![]() | Infection
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $2.06 I remember there was this kid in one of my college classes that wanted to be a big-time Hollywood director. The teacher asked him what his favorite movie was. The kid said, "I don't know about my favorite movie, but I can tell you the worst movie ever made: This Asian movie called 'Infection'." Rundown? Hollywood kid HATES this movie. All the more reason to see it.

![]() | The Descent (Original Unrated Cut) [Widescreen Edition]
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.75 In my opinion, this is probably the greatest horror movie of the 2000s. End of story.
![]() | High Tension (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $1.98 When I saw this in the theatres, my friend and I were the only ones there. Pardon my cliche, but we were literally on the edge of our seats. This movie is aptly named. The scene near the end (with the car and chainsaw) was so beautifully shot; the spouting blood mixed with the weilding chainsaw looked like some performance art dance.
![]() | The Abandoned
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.12 This was the best movie that came out of HorrorFest. If you ask me, it shouldn't have been lumped in with god=awful movies like "Dark Ride", "Penny Dreadful" or "The Gravedancers". Those films pale in comparison to this one.
![]() | Them (a.k.a. Ils)
Buy new: $20.49 / Used from: $12.08 A movie that plays up the creep factor by not revealing anything to the audience at all. As we all know, the images we create in our heads are for more terrifying than anything that can be produced onto celluloid.
![]() | Isolation
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $2.61 If "Dirty Pretty Things" were about killer baby cows, it would look something like this. A ridiculous premise that takes itself VERY seriously. Great special effects in this Irish ode to old sci-fi flicks, though, in this case, it is far from being campy.
![]() | Wolf Creek (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $5.99 / Used from: $0.72 Someone told me this movie was horrible. When I saw it, I paused the movie halfway through, turned to my friend and said, "This movie better start getting bad because I'm really liking it."
![]() | Below
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $2.15 This is a superbly done ghost story. Writer Arnofsky takes the traditional haunted house conventions and puts them in a submarine. This one gave me chills.
![]() | The Dark Hours
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $1.84 A mindbending Canadian flick. Beautifully shot psycho-thriller. A psychiatrist is tested by one of her patients to the brink of insanity.
![]() | Eden Lake
Buy new: $14.95 / Used from: $4.28 Suspense triumphs over gratuity in this British thriller. Boys will be boys and kids will be killers.
![]() | The Last Winter
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $1.52 In a time where horror films are loud and flashy, this entry in the genre takes you on a wild ride in Alaska where all you see around you is white. You can actually feel how cold and bitter it is just by watching it.
![]() | Vinyan
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $1.98 Atmospherically surreal. A man and woman virtually go mad trying to find their lost son; you go mad, too, because of the way it's filmed and how well the characters convince you you're insane like them.
![]() | Martyrs
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $7.13 Easily one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. I was quite amazingly speechless once this movie was finished. One critic stated that this movie "is the new yard stick against which all forms of extreme genre films should be measured against."
![]() | Donkey Punch [Unrated]
Buy new: $25.49 / Used from: $5.47 Don't let the title fool you. This movie is actually more artistic than the connotations of the world's most notorious sexual act. Scary as hell, and gory, too. The shocks come unsuspected, with your mouths forming into large Os.
![]() | Splinter
Buy new: $21.49 / Used from: $6.58 This film brings monsters back to the horror genre, and dismisses yawn-worthy slashers and torture flicks. If you miss FX creatures, then this movie is for you.
![]() | Deep In The Woods
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $1.77 This is a French film that weirds me out. The way the movie's shot is just so strange. A travelling troupe of twenty-somethings visit a man's mansion to perform for him and his child, until things start to go awry.
![]() | The Eye
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $7.47 I saw this one about five years ago in a desolate camp out in the middle of nowhere. I'm not quite sure if the circumstances helped the creep factor out just a little bit or not, either way, it scared the crap out of me. If being scared while alone and engulfed by trees is your cup of tea, I recommend watching this one.
![]() | 28 Days Later (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $1.09 Of course, most of you have probably seen this, so I don't need to go into details about it. Contrary to popular belief, it's not a zombie movie. Danny Boyle has stated that this wasn't his intent when making the film. It's about a virus that "renders people mindlessly violent", and not about walking corpses.
![]() | Masters of Horror - Imprint
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $2.44 This is probably one of my favorite Takashi Miike projects, next to "The Box" which was a short made for "The Three... Extremes". This is the only "Masters of Horror" episode that actually feels like the auteur's work, and not Showtime's. "Imprint" was banned from television for a while, due to its disturbing images of torture, incest, rape and abortions.
![]() | He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $11.55 All I can say is that if you're a fan of "Amelie", you should rent this immediately. Audrey Tautou's performance is unequivocaly one of her best, and challenges her reputation of being "cute".
![]() | Love Object
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.69 "Love Object" is kind of depressing. A shy, introverted man purchases a blow-up doll, which eventually comes in between him and his girlfriend. He must decided between intimacy with reality or intimacy with synthetics.
![]() | Uzumaki
Buy used from: $9.33 This is a crazy flick. "Uzumaki" - meaning "spiral" - is about a town in Japan that is tormented by the sight of spirals. Lots of really cool special effects, including a woman's head beign turned around with her eyes bulging out.
![]() | Deathwatch
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $2.90 It's up to you to decide what's going on in this foxhole of a British army. Scary images of corpses wrapped in barbed wire agonize those at war. But are they at war with the enemy or at war with themselves?
![]() | Right at Your Door
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.56 In a post-9/11 world, a big fear amongst Americans is the chance that something incredibly disatrous could happen in a split second without any of our realizations, renderring us helpless and on our own, once the government (people we should trust) cage us in our own homes while telling us it's for the better.
![]() | May
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $5.85 I think that Angela Bettis is one of the greatest actresses of all time. I've always said that they should stop giving Jennifer Aniston movie roles and give them to someone who can actually act. Everything I've seen Bettis in, she's played characters who are polars apart from each other, and hadn't even realized it was her until halfway through the movie.
![]() | The Mothman Prophecies
Buy used from: $4.00 This is just one of those nightmarish, "please, wake me up" movies that goes unnoticed. This mysterious plot actually has nothing to do with the real "Mothman" urban legend, but packs your mind full of questions, while you reach to turn on your light.
![]() | Hard Candy
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.49 Though not really a "horror movie" per se, it's suspenseful and cringe-worthy enough to be apart of the list. Four words: 30 minute castration scene.
![]() | Creep
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $1.88 This British gem finds itself regurgitating 70s exploitation and 80s slasher mentality - but in a good way! Someone lives in the nether regions of this subway, and he knows every nook and cranny better than you do, so running away is pretty much useless.
![]() | The Girl Next Door
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $4.58 A hard film to sit through. So disturbing and extremely brilliant at the same time. What makes it so uneasy to watch is knowing that it was purportedly based on real events.
![]() | The Red Shoes
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $2.14 This flick's got great cinematography, and awesome movie magic. At one point, I actually threw my fists in the air and applauded. That doesn't happen that often.
![]() | The Devil's Backbone
Buy used from: $4.86 Before "Hellboy" and "Pan's Labyrinth", there was "The Devil's Backbone". Guillermo del Toro superbly weaves in a chilling ghost story into a movie about the Spanish Civil War.
![]() | Let The Right One In
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.46 Beautiful and charming are two atypical words to describe a horror film, but I can't help it because it's the best way I can. Probably one of the greatest vampire movies I've ever seen. Leave it to the Swedes.
![]() | Open Water (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.01 Some of the biggest complaints I get about this movie is that it's "slow". "Slow" doesn't mean "bad", people! It's about a couple stranded in the middle of the ocean! All you hear are birds and the waves sloshing around. There isn't going to be any diegetic rock music playing because they're in the middle of the damn ocean. It's all about atmosphere.
![]() | Bubba Ho-Tep (Limited Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $1.88 A geriatric Elvis fights a mummy. Need I say more?
![]() | Dumplings ( Gaau ji ) [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.0 Import - Australia ]
Buy used from: $30.99 People will go to great lengths to retrieve their once youthful vanity. "Dumplings" tells the story of a "chef", for lack of a better word, that creates age-defying dumplings. Once you find out what's in those dumplings, you won't want to eat for a week.
![]() | Calvaire: The Ordeal
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $4.42 Imagine that Tobe Hooper lived in Germany during the 70s. This would be the German equivalent of that famous chainsaw massacre we've all heard about..
![]() | Inside (Unrated)
Buy used from: $8.59 I'm usually not a fan of gratuitous gore, but this movie has enough creepy tension to balance the bloodshed. This is unlike ANYTHING I have seen us Americans do.
![]() | Cannibal
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $9.08 And lastly, if you claim to like "Hostel", try watching this German soft-gore porn. Guranteed this will be the sickest movie you've ever seen.
