J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet High-Carbon Stainless Steel Steak Knives, Set of 4J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet High-Carbon Stainless Steel Steak Knives, Set of 4
Buy new: $49.95
I've been jonesing for a good quality set of steak knives lately, and of all the ones I reviewed, dishwasher-safe was a partial consideration, and these don't seem to stain. Plus they're nice and heavy, like a steak knife should be.
KitchenAid 7-Inch Santoku Knife, BlackKitchenAid 7-Inch Santoku Knife, Black
I hadn't used a Santoku style knife before, so I decided to get a cheaper one to begin. Despite the price it's really nice though. Well worth the money just to try out the blade type.
Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan 9-Inch Bread KnifeChicago Cutlery Metropolitan 9-Inch Bread Knife
Buy new: $12.99
I found this on another user's Listmania list, and have been really satisfied by it. I have started making my own bread, and this thing sure beats my old hand-me-down bread knife.
Global 4-1/2-Inch Utility KnifeGlobal 4-1/2-Inch Utility Knife
Buy new: $39.95
After reading a little bit about cooking knives, I decided I HAD to try a Global knife. This one was a little more affordable, and really well reviewed, so it was my first choice.
Global 8-Inch 20cm Cook's KnifeGlobal 8-Inch 20cm Cook's Knife
Buy new: $90.95
After deciding to buy the 4.5" knife, I decided oh, what the hell, I'll splurge. This knife beats the pants off the Cutco chef's knife I used to steal from my roommate. And I thought that one was amazing!
Chicago Cutlery Insignia Kitchen Shears, BlackChicago Cutlery Insignia Kitchen Shears, Black
Buy new: $7.99
My old roommate had a set of these, which I loved. The bottle openers on the end are a little awkward, but great for when you lost the actual bottle opener last night in a drunken stupor.
Chicago Cutlery 14-Slot Knife Storage Block with In-Block SharpenerChicago Cutlery 14-Slot Knife Storage Block with In-Block Sharpener
Buy new: $19.99
Block with enough slots for me. The sharpener I don't really trust, but the only reason I bought the block was because the number of slots was the best I could get for the price. It's a nice solid block.
Chicago Cutlery Woodworks 19-1/2-by-13-1/2-Inch Carving BoardChicago Cutlery Woodworks 19-1/2-by-13-1/2-Inch Carving Board
Buy new: $19.99
I had a few plastic cutting boards, but I miss the feeling of using wood, which I like much more. Some of the wooden carving boards are overpriced, but this one was just right.
Swissmar Borner V-Slicer PlusSwissmar Borner V-Slicer Plus
Buy new: $38.20
I love to make chili, and dicing up 4 onions is not terribly fast, but with this thing I'm done in 10% the time. Awesome. Just don't cut yourself!
Lodge Logic 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned SkilletLodge Logic 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet
Buy new: $15.29
A recommendation of Alton Brown's. Bacon and eggs in this thing is good, and so is some up-scale grilled cheese.
Lodge Logic 12-Inch Iron CoverLodge Logic 12-Inch Iron Cover
Buy new: $24.99
Gotta get the lid for it of course.
Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Medium Dome CoverCuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Medium Dome Cover
Buy new: $24.95
Great pan for general use. I use it for hashbrowns, making big batches of rice, and until I get a real skillet, this is where I pan fry everything.
Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless 1-1/2-Quart Saucepan with CoverCuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless 1-1/2-Quart Saucepan with Cover
Buy new: $19.95
A great pot for making your own tomato sauce, which is something I've only just started, but only in small doses. Nice to make soup in as well!
Oxo Good Grips 16-Inch Locking TongsOxo Good Grips 16-Inch Locking Tongs
Buy new: $13.99
Alton said they were the best, gotta trust him. Great for flipping over meat in the pan or even out on the grill.
Oxo Good Grips CorerOxo Good Grips Corer
Buy new: $7.99
I didn't really think I needed a corer, but it makes eating an apple with cheese much easier.
Oxo Good Grips i-Series Y PeelerOxo Good Grips i-Series Y Peeler
Buy new: $9.99
The quickest way to peel potatoes or even citrus. My hand used to cramp with swivel peelers, but this one is really comfortable.
WMF Profi Plus 12-1/2-Inch Stainless Steel Pasta SpoonWMF Profi Plus 12-1/2-Inch Stainless Steel Pasta Spoon
Buy new: $17.81
I needed a pasta spoon anyway, but this one is nice and long, and cleans very easily.
WMF Profi Plus Mini Ball WhiskWMF Profi Plus Mini Ball Whisk
Buy new: $19.90
Decided I'd gotten tired of the old style whisks. I tried the flat ones, and they didn't do it for me. This one does just as good a job as a standard whisk but it's much easier to clean.
WMF Profi Plus Cook's SpoonWMF Profi Plus Cook's Spoon
Buy new: $19.90
Interesting spoon... almost a spachula. Comes in useful.
WMF Profi Plus 12-1/2-Inch Stainless Steel Serving SpoonWMF Profi Plus 12-1/2-Inch Stainless Steel Serving Spoon
Buy new: $17.90
This is your standard cooking spoon. Like the rest of the Profi Plus line though, it's really easy to clean.
Trudeau Garlic PressTrudeau Garlic Press
Buy new: $11.99
I put garlic in probably far too many dishes, so I'm always buying it raw and mincing it manually. This was one of the presses recommended on Amazon and for the price it's well worth it.
Profi Plus 11-Inch Stainless Steel SpatulaProfi Plus 11-Inch Stainless Steel Spatula
Buy new: $17.90
This spatula is super thin (nearly sharp) which is awesome because when I'm pan frying things, the spatula doesn't destroy the underside of the food, it just slips right in.
MIU 2.2-Pound Meat PounderMIU 2.2-Pound Meat Pounder
Buy new: $34.99
I searched for a long time to find a good meat pounder. I went with this circular one despite never having used one. I thought the grip would be bad, but it surprised me. The thing is also heavy enough that you don't have to exert yourself too much to pound that meat.
WMF Profi Plus 11-Inch Stainless Steel Sauce LadleWMF Profi Plus 11-Inch Stainless Steel Sauce Ladle
Buy new: $17.90
I hate normal soup ladles because I apparently suck at pouring out of them. This one is for sauce technically, but it makes my life a lot easier when I'm serving soup.
Weber Baby Q (Q 100) Portable Gas GrillWeber Baby Q (Q 100) Portable Gas Grill
Buy new: $135.95
I needed a good starter grill, and I got this one as a gift, just after deciding on buying it myself. This grill is a bit smaller, but it's really really good. It cooks evenly, and gets good mileage out of the gas canisters. It only takes cooking-style propane tanks, but you can buy the full-size tank adapter. I just pick up the camping sized ones for $4 at the store.
Weber 41429 Rolling Cart for Weber Q and Baby Q GrillsWeber 41429 Rolling Cart for Weber Q and Baby Q Grills

Just so you don't have to crouch in order to flip your burgers and steaks and portobellos.
