Editorial Review
This battery-operated Caucasian doll has unpredictable behaviors to give little girls a taste of what it's like to care for a real baby. Chou Chou makes realistic movements, such as kicking her legs when happy or when her diaper is being changed and opening and closing her eyes randomly. Her sounds and behaviors are also very convincing and include babbling baby talk when Chou Chou is happy, yawning when Chou Chou is sleepy, a sucking sound when Chou Chou's bottle is placed in her mouth, laughing when her blanket is thrown over the upper part of Chou Chou's body, and crying when Chou Chou is not attended to after one minute. Chou Chou also has molded plastic hands, feet, and head that look realistic and a soft, fabric body so she is still cuddly enough to sleep with. Chou Chou comes with several helpful care-taking accessories, including a pacifier, bottle, security blanket, and a birth certificate authenticating her arrival. She comes dressed in a romper suit, hat, and diaper—all of which may be hand washed. --Cristina Vaamonde

Great idea, needs work, probably for an older child
I bought Love Me Chou Chou and Annabell to decide which was better for my daughter this Christmas. I hands down would have chosen this doll (softer voice, soft skin on head, legs kick, good proportion like real baby),but I ended up choosing Annabell.
Love Me's head is made of this soft realistic material, which is great, but it is actually a cover over the real head and you can see the plastic beneath the flaps under her eyes. Her head also has this big seam running through the middle. The worst part was when I laid her down on the floor without her hat and her "soft" head brought back every piece of dirt and dust with it. It looked exactly like my lint roller. Her soft head just doesn't seem very durable in the long run (also looked dingy after I showed it to two family members- my daughter hasn't even played with it yet!).
The other things worth mentioning are that the arms and legs are cloth, so no dresses or short sleeves for this doll. Annabell has plastic arms and legs, so I guess it is really a choice between more cuddly and dress up potential.
Annabell's mouth moves more prominently than Love Me's, but Love Me's mouth even moves when she is crying or talking. Annabell is much easier to put to sleep and to satisfy, but I think an older child may find this boring.
Honestly, I was looking for my two year old, so I chose Annabell for these reasons: she is lighter, she has plastic arms/legs, she won't get messed up from being dragged around by her arm, she is easy to operate, and she has gotten amazing reviews for years.
If my daughter was 4 or 5, I would get this doll. She does much more and is more challenging. Plus, an older child would probably treat her "baby" a little better!
Dolls sure have changed!
My daughter is 19 months old and loves her baby doll - she likes to feed it and play with it - so after I saw the commercial for Love Me Chou Chou - I thought I would check out this doll. I was a little nervous after some of the reviews. When I got to the store I was torn between Rock A Bye Chou Chou and Baby Annabel - both are cheaper - I thought the other two dolls would be fine but decided to go with Love Me Chou Chou.
It is a Christmas present, so I took it out to test it before putting it away. I was very pleased with the doll - if it were up to me I would make some changes but here are my list of pros and cons.
Pros - it is VERY life-like (although heavy for my daughter at 19 months but fine for older girls).
I love the mouth - it actually sucks your finger with real baby-like sucking action - it's movements are very real looking.
It has great features - it opens and closes it's eyes, sucks a bottle, kicks it's legs, makes noises (like giggling, crying, and cooing), and goes to sleep.
It will be great to interact with - perfect doll for little Mommy-want-to-bes.
Cons - No directions - I still haven't figured out HOW to make her go to sleep although my 10 year old SON got her to sleep twice - but I am not sure what did it! If you, please post it here! I also couldn't figure out how to make her kick her legs - that one I finally figured out though - rub her blanket (the bear on the end must have a magnet or something) up and down her chest and she will kick her legs.
Her noises are kind of annoying - not as life like as I would have liked. She sounds like she is whining or something and I can't tell her noises apart except for the crying. There should also be an easy way to make her stop crying or go to sleep and I have yet to discover if there is.
She isn't all that cute - some other baby dolls had much cuter features than this doll - I might try buying a baby wig eventually to make her cuter!
Still, even with those cons - I think it is a great toy and will be enjoyed by many little girls of all ages. One mom at the store was buying it for her 8 year old - so I think it will get years of use.
I have yet to see what my daughter thinks of it but she is a little young, so even if it isn't the best toy in the world today, she has many years to enjoy her.
Love Me Chou Chou Is a Great Doll
I bought this doll for my 3-year old daughter for Christmas. When I received the package, I wanted to test it to make sure that it worked properly because other reviewers have commented that their doll didn't work and had to be returned. I agonized on which doll to purchase for a long time--it was a toss up between the Baby Annabel and Love Me Chou Chou and have read and re-read descriptions and reviews. I was about to purchase Baby Annabel but when I realized that they were both made by the same makers, Zapf. So I changed my mind to Love Me Chou Chou because it has more function and it is softer. Since my daughter has the Itty Bitty Baby which is all made of plastic and I really don't let her sleep with it in her bed or I remove the doll after she is asleep for the fear that she will hurt herself when she is turning and flopping in bed. I thought Love Me Chou Chou will be softer and can cuddle with her in her bed without fear of getting poked and jabbed.
The doll we received operated just fine which made me happy. I don't think that the doll is particularly ugly--everyone that showed the doll to thinks it is cute--it is not perfect as it doesn't have hair or it has seams and when the eyes closes, part of the eyeball shows. But on the other hand I think the functions do offset all the downside--I don't think that my 3-years old would be particularly bothered by them.
I love the eyes blinking, legs kicking, and mouth sucking movements. I do not like the sounds too much because I couldn't differentiate too much the babbling and the giggling and the crying sounds. I also think that the function when the diaper is opened is the slowest to respond--it is triggered by a light sensitive sensor--and it would either cry or be happy. It did come with instructions (someone made a comment that it didn't) but for show and tell as I was showing to the girls at work and my daughter's baby sitter, it is difficult to show all the function in a couple of minutes because the doll is programmed to do random actions--this is especially true when you want her to go on sleep mode. The way to do it is to put the head of the bear on the blankie lined up with the bear applique on her outfit (right chest area)--most of the time she will be "happy"-- giggles and kick; but if she yawns, you have to give her the bottle which she will suck a few times then fall asleep with deep breathing sounds (I love this when it happens--I think it is really funny). But sometimes it will take many tries before she yawns. If the doll remains idle for 1 minute, then the baby will cry and to make her happy and stop crying, you have to give her one of the 3 B's (binky, blankie, or bottle) and it operates randomly--so you have to do trial and error just like a real baby.
Overall, I love this doll (everyone that I showed the doll to loves this dolls)--I think it is adorable, I think that my daughter will love it and I don't think for what it does that the price is unreasonable. When it gets cumbersome, there is always the off switch in the back. Just one more comment to keep in mind, I also bought a stroller for the doll which is a generic brand from Family Dollar and the doll just fits or barely fits because this is 19" long and chunkier than the other dolls--but since the doll won't grow, I figured it would do for now.
