Quiet, contemplative, and unhurried, Prayer for Peace sustains a fittingly reflective mood as it samples music from eight artists and 15 previously released Silver Wave recordings. The label specializes in music that intertwines Native American and contemporary instrumental elements, and the assembled talent here---flutist R. Carlos Nakai, pianist Peter Kater, vocalist Joanne Shenandoah, plus a single selection from Robert Mirabal--showcase the affecting, organic appeal of such an approach. Label cornerstones Nakai and Kater evoke some of the disc's most thoughtful moments in eloquent ensemble pieces such as "I Will Fight No More" and "If Men Were at Peace" (the latter featuring Paul McCandless on soprano saxophone and cellist David Darling), and Shenandoah's unforced, crystalline vocalese can inspire stillness and quiet. Chanting is a minimal element on this disc. Sales of the recording are intended to benefit the World Peace Prayer Society. --Terry Wood

An enduring compilation of thoughtful peace..
This is a wonderful compilation of Native American music. Each piece reflects on Inner Peace and the need for Peace and Prayer in our lives. Some of the best Native American musical talent is featured ont his CD, making it one of the best-ever compilation CDs available. By focusing on peace, the tunes are reflective, thoughtful and very lyrical. The compilaton is masterful in combining music which flows from one piece into the next creating an overall portrait of tranquility and meditative thought. You would be hard-presesd to find a better selection of high-quality ensemble music and vocals, no matter what the ethnic background of the musicians. The fact that this CD exists demonstrates the outstanding musical talent within the Native American community. This is destined to be a classic and to stay in your collection for years to come.
Gift of Peace
This is a beautiful cd from beginning to end, creating an atmosphere of heart-centered peace. I have been known to play it several times a day, often just before a client call so that I can carry that loving peace into the call. Each time I listen I am touched by the honey smooth voice of Joanne Shenandoah, the duets of Peter Kater and Carlos Nakai, and Lawrence Laughing's heart-filled voice.
'May Peace Prevail on Earth'
After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, this album is more poignant than ever. A beautifully, soothing soundscape with a decidedly Native American bent. Prayer For Peace showcases today's top Native musician's: Robert Mirabal, Joanne Shenandoah, Mary Youngblood, R. Carlos Nakai & many more. Proceeds benefit The World Peace Prayer Society and the message is clear...
