MICHAEL HAYES is an administrator at the University of Central England and is the author of The Infinite Harmony. He first recognized a common link between all major religions and esoteric doctrines while working in postrevolutionary Iran, where he was able to observe all the major religions practiced side by side. A good book but difficult to read
This is not an easy read; however I enjoyed it and many of the proposed ideas are eyeopening and, I believe, important for our times. The reader should have a good understanding of science, particulary quantum mechanics, sub-particle physics, and molecular biology. Some knowledge of music theory will also be very helpful. On the other side of the scale, the reader should also have some background in esoteric ideas and be somewhat familiar with the tenets of the world's major religions. Without some background knowledge about these things one will probably be lost at some point in this book. I had much physics training a long time ago, and while I am not a scientist, this past education definately helped me to get through this book. The basic ideas that are proposed are that the universe is ordered according to the "hermetic code", certain numerical relations that repeat and mirror themselves according to the old hermetic tenet "As above, so below". The author leads the reader to discover that these numerical relations are the same on the microcosmical level of the atom, the molecule, and the DNA (the genetic code) as well as on the macroscopic level, the solar system, the galaxy, etc, and everywhere in between (the human brain). The end fazit is that we live in a holographic universe, where everything is essentially light and music, light and sound, something that many students of spiritual paths will have discovered in a way different from scientific logic.
He also devotes much time to ancient Egypt and proposes that the immense monumemts such as the Pyramids (with stone blocks weighting up to 1200 tons!) were built, according to musical and psychic influences (telekinesis). These ideas in themselves were not new to me, but what was new and fascinating to me was that here was a scientific approach to them. The scientific approach is sometimes a bit tedious for someone who may already "know" these things from more direct perception, however I believe it is books like this one that offer an important bridge between the scientific community and those more spiritually attuned.

22/7. That about sums up most of the concrete information in this book. The author provides a wide ranging survey around metaphysical concepts surrounding the nature of reality and Hermetics. If you don't know anything about Hermetics, resonance, or any metaphysical books printed in the past few years then this is a good place to start.

However, if you are aware of many of the authors around alternative human histories then your search for the secrets that this book may claim to have at face value will leave you largely frustrated. You get short segments around the octaves comprising 22 notes (8 notes to the octave, thus 7 notes *3 octaves +1 to cap the transition to the fourth octave, 7*3+1 = 22). And you get some cursory math around Pi in the pyramids of Giza and Central America. But that's about all you are going to be able to point to here.

There are many interesting bits here. The author surely does draw from a great number of sources. But in the end you feel that the synthesis of information as to where the author was pointing to never really got concretized.

If you want to get into harmonics and resonance then better places to start are with either Nassim Haramein (resonance project) or Hazrat Inayat Khan (a Sufi).

An Exciting Read

The opening chapter begins with a discussion of archaeological, geologic and mythological evidence indicating that the origin of scientifically sophisticated human civilization on earth dates back far longer than modern conventional wisdom would allow. Prehistoric civilizations, Hayes tells us, seem to have been almost entirely preoccupied with the idea of order and harmony on a universal scale. In his search to ascertain the origin of the Hermetic Code, he finds evidence of its most fundamental component--the octave, the sacred constant--dating back at least 75,000 years.

The book continues with an exploration into a higher octave of consciousness known to the ancients but now obscure, the secrets of the great pyramids, the essence of time and space, reincarnation, mathematics, religious traditions and more... and how all of it relates to the code that determines, for each and every one of us, the essence of who we are.

Clearly written, thoroughly indexed and packed with compelling descriptions of multitudes of phenomena we've all heard about but of which most of us have little understanding, The Hermetic Code in DNA is an exciting and wonderful read.
