Product Description
The BIOSAFE TSH test is a laboratory analysis that measures a chemical substance in the blood called thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The test provides you with an accurate, convenient, and inexpensive way to discover you own TSH level. The amount of TSH present is directly related to both hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). The specimen collection process is quick, easy and virtually painless. Using the special lancet (included in the BIOSAFE Blood Collection Kit), a couple of drops of blood are taken from a nick of a finger and deposited into a special collection device called a BTS (Blood Transport System). The BTS is then sent to BIOSAFE Laboratories for analysis. BIOSAFE tests your blood sample to see how much TSH is present and then mails the results back to you in an easy-to-read, understandable report. Includes laboratory authorization form; BTS Blood Transport System; easy to understand instructions; alcohol prep; gauze pad; 2 lancets; adhesive bandage; and postage paid return mail envelope. Biosafe's Thyroid Test measures the level of TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) in the blood. This test will help you and your healthcare provider identify and/or monitor an underactive or overactive thyroid condition. Symptoms of a possible thyroid condition include: unexplained weight gain; fatigue; dry skin; heart palpitations; sensitivity to heat or cold; inability to lose weight; depression; hair loss; and insomnia.

Disappointed
This product actually has a pretty easy follow along manual that I was impressed with. The finger prick was my biggest fear and that too was nothing to worry about. The problem came with the actual blood collection device. The manual doesn't give an estimate on how long the blood takes to absorb and the "finished" indicator to turn red. So after filling the whole fill port with blood - which took a couple of finger pricks, I came to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my blood collector. I called the 1-800 number but found it was a disconnected number. The website isn't much help either with the website copyrighted to 2007.
No "how to contact us" with a valid phone number. I sterilized a pin as best as I could and tried to unplug the collector hole. The viewer window turned a dark pink but I'm afraid the sample won't be good enough to test properly. I won't buy this product again. The invalid phone number was a big mistake on their part!
Inaccurate test results
Let me just say that I would have loved for the Biosafe Thyroid test to work. The actual process of doing the test did not present a problem and the idea of being able to test at home is great. Unfortunately the results are wildly inacccurate. I've used them previously, and had my suspicions then, so decided to compare them with my doctor's lab results. I did the Biosafe test on the same day (less then 30 minutes after) my TSH at my doctor's office. After waiting almost three weeks for the Biosafe results to arrive, I was amazed to see that they were off by three points. For a TSH this is significant. I contacted the Biosafe customer service number and spoke with a representative. She forwarded my question to their lab's medical director. Basically factors such as transit time of the blood sample, and temperature of the package in the mail have to do with accuracy of test results. Which brings me to the conclusion: get your test from a doctor! Yes, mail order tests are convenient, but if the results aren't accurate, what's the point? I'm posting this so that others can have all the information before making a decision. Hope it helps.
BioSafe Thyroid Test
WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS TEST. I bought this test and sent it to BioSafe in their packaging and it was "lost in the mail". They sent me a second test which was also "delayed" in transit. When they finally located it and sent me the results, they were completely wrong. I had a proper blood test done though my doctor and it showed my TSH level at 6.2, not the 2.5 reported on the BioSafe results. I feel ripped off. Either the test sample deteriorated because it took so long for them to receive it or the test itself is not accurate.
