In an attempt to turn a fantasy into reality, three women, Judith Joslow, Patricia West-Barker, and Susan Mills, traveled across the United States to meet, learn from, and record the stories of practicing healers. The result of their journey is Healing Spirits, a testament to the lives and work of over two dozen remarkable men and women. A New Mexico-based animal trainer, a sound healer, a former running coach, an Irish-Native American intuitive - their stories and paths are both ordinary and extraordinary, but what they all share is an unshakable belief in the idea that everyone is a potential healer with an innate ability to move toward wholeness.

Learning is Healing
I don't think that I had realized how many types of healers that there were practicing in the US. I was amazed at the difference in their approaches and in their philosophies. Yet, their experiences with healing helped me understand the power that they, and all of us have, for healing. I think after reading these wonderful tales of 14 healers I know a lot more about listening to my own body's needs. This is a powerful book for anyone who wishes to know more about how we heal and are healed.
If you're interested in energetic healing... READ THIS BOOK
I can't say it any plainer than that. The concept of this book... tell the stories of several (15 to be exact) healers is innovative and I hope other authors follow suit.
As a seeker of principles and common threads of energetic healing, I found that "Healing Spirits" was a breath of fresh air. It gives you a good look at the approaches, or the philosophies of healers of a wide variety of backgrounds... a cross- section of sorts.
This book, and "Healers on Healing", by Richard Carlson and Benjamin Shield, are at the top of my list of books recommended to friends with an interest in this area.
Sometimes the best medicine is a road trip
Face it--we love true stories of people overcoming adversity, and I don't mean wending our way through the paperwork of Medicaid. In Healing Spirits, two writers (Judith Joslow-Rodewald and Patricia West-Barker) and photographer Susan Mills hit the road to medical redemption. The format is fresh and personal in this kind and provoking series of interviews with alternative healers. Some may seem wacky, others will resonate, but all of them offer the validity of choice and possibility.
Creating a map across the United States that leads into the wide-open universe, each path is presented with the stories of the writers and photographer along with each healer speaking conversationally about why and how they practice. The approaches are varied and personal with common threads-- each healer has his or her own skills, no one is more deserving of health than another, and although we should actively and creatively take part in healing ourselves, we do not need to be alone in the endeavor.
This is a beautiful book. Give it to yourself and your friends. Don't wait until you know you are sick-- herein are the possibilities of alternate roads.
