In EASTERN BODY, WESTERN MIND, chakra authority Anodea Judith brought a fresh approach to the yoga-based Eastern chakra system, adapting it to the Western framework of Jungian psychology, somatic therapy, childhood developmental theory, and metaphysics. This groundbreaking work in transpersonal psychology has been revised and redesigned for a more accessible presentation. Arranged schematically, the book uses the inherent structure of the chakra system as a map upon which to chart our Western understanding of individual development. Each chapter focuses on a single chakra, starting with a description of its characteristics, then exploring its particular childhood developmental patterns, traumas and abuses, and how to heal and maintain balance. Illuminated with personal anecdotes and case studies, EASTERN BODY, WESTERN MIND seamlessly merges the East and West, science and philosophy, and psychology and spirituality into a compelling interpretation of the chakra system and its relevance for Westerners today.

From Library Journal
Judith (Sevenfold Journey, LJ 4/1/93), a healer, elucidates the chakra system and how it shapes and is shaped by human behavior. The seven chakras, or human biocomputer, are located at various levels of our bodies. The chakras start with survival (at the base of the spine), followed by sexuality (lower back), power (solar plexus), love (heart area), communication (throat), intuition (brow), and cognition (crown). Giving an understanding of the chakras and their corresponding psychological character, Judith then invites the reader to explore multidimensional healing processes to bring the chakras into balance. To provide illustrations of practical applications, she offers personal stories. Although her book contains a lot of information, it is user-friendly, allowing the reader to view pertinent chapters through the use of subtitles and reference charts. Like Rickie Moore's Goddess in My Shoes (Humanics, 1988), this work would be popular in New Age collections.?L. Kriz, West Des Moines Lib., Iowa

Eastern Body Western Mind
A great book on the Chakra System that deals with the pyschology of the Chakras and how our life experiences from birth have determined our behaviors because of what we hold at the energetic and cellular level of our being. Sometimes understanding how and why we opperate a particular way allows us to find the way to transform the pattern. As a teacher of the chakra system for 10 years I have found this to be the first chakra book that deals with western mind.
Eastern Body, Western Mind: Psychology and Chakra System as a path to the Self
This is an amazing book! It helped me to understand myself and people a lot. I love it! I definitely look on human behavior in a different way now.
if you're ready for indepth realizations, this is the right book
someone lent me this book and then i realized i needed it for my therapy. in the descriptions of the types of people, the lacks and excesses, i found myself much better described than in a typical psych book or a vague new age chakra book. my shrink is a shaman and works with me a lot on chakras and when i got a therapist i xeroxed pages for her in what i felt would work best in my recovery. this helps me when my reiki and body worker both talk about my chakras. i was raised by hippies and lived in a 3HO ashram as a teenager and so i had been doing yoga for the chakras, but really didn't have a western frame of reference of them. i got the eastern hippie "the three lower chakras are BAD" guilt version. as a professional psychic, i was so happy to learn how to connect in a healthy way with my lower chakras and incorporate it into my holistic treatment - spiritual, psychological, physical, emotional. it's the only good chakra book i have found since it is accessible for my clients and works well as a context for my personal healing treatments. not only does the author talk about the chakras' purposes, she goes on to explain what happens when they get out of whack, and how to treat that in a therapy situation. very easy to read, incredibly powerful. i think it could be life changing, which is why i, a reader who devours a book in one sitting, am reading this one very very slowly. each page has enough information to truly make me sit down and think and grow. other chakra books may dance around the meanings and give general information, but i never found one that had a practical application before.
