Customer Reviews

The last of the original Jim Reeves albums4
"Moonlight And Roses" was the last album released in Reeves' lifetime (1964), and inlcudes the pleasant title song and really nice versions of "Mexicali Rose" and "When I Lost You", among others. After his death RCA released "The Jim Reeves Way", which also included great versions of "In The Misty Moonlight", "I Can't Stop Loving You". and one of his most beautiful recordings -- "Maureen". These albums are the crossover artist that so nicely balanced country and pop. Both are produced primarily by Chet Atkins with most arrangement by Anite Kerr. I listen with headphones only, and this twofer sounds very, very good. Recommended.

"Moonlight and Roses"/"The Jim Reeves Way"5
This is a superb Jim Reeves Double Album. As a teenager in my homeland, I used to listen to the beautiful songs in this collection on two Long Playing Records decades ago for countless times. I have particularly enjoyed the sweet renditions such as Rosa Rio, Roses. There's A New Moon Over My Shoulder,In the Misty Moonlight,There 's that Smile Again,It hurts so much to see you go,I Can't Stop Loving you, A Nickel Piece Of Candy, Where Do I Go To Throw A Picture Away and Somewhere Along The Line. Jim's rich baritone voice is so charming. I am sure that he had the voice of an Angel and that our Heavenly Father in His infinite wisdom did lend Jim to us so that our lives could be happier.Jim , I believe , is now in Heaven singing with the Angels. All Lovers of Jim Reeves Songs should buy this album. It is a priceless gem.Enjoy!

Gentleman Jim on the Job4
I still have my old 33 1/3 vinyl of "The Jim Reeves Way", a bit tattered but the album is unscratched. I ordinarily wouldn't recommend ANY album where the singer covers songs that are virtual signature songs of other singers, even if they were recorded later in some instances. This CD has songs remembered as being sung by Gene Autry, Eddy Arnold, Jerry Wallace, Don Gibson and who knows else. I can recall only "Somewhere Along the Line" as a Reeves hit in America. I could be wrong. But his renditions of others' songs are so good and the non-commercial cuts, "Nickel Piece of Candy", "Where Do I Go to Throw a Picture Away?", "Maureen", and "Ek Verland (sp) Na Jou" ("I'm Missing You") from South Africa where he was enormously popular are so exceptional, I must recommend this. The songs need not conjure up specific memories. Jim could have sung from the telephone book and sounded good. I recommend this twofer highly.
