I really enjoyed watching this - a real treat
I have always been a Gary Puckett fan, and was very excited to learn that a current DVD was available in which he performed several of his big hits. But I do have to say that I held off purchasing it because of some of the negative reviews I read here. But while I have tremendous respect for the reviewers who took the time to share their opinions, reviews and assessments can often be quite subjective, and what someone else thinks may differ significantly from what I think -- in either direction. So I bought the DVD, and I'm very glad that I did. I really enjoyed it, and thought the performance was very good. It was also nice to watch the "back stage" interview, which gave me a new insight on and appreciation of Gary which I had not had from just listening to records (which I still have), cassettes (ditto), and CDs. I guess my take on this is the same as my take on the Gary Lewis and the Playboys DVD which I bought at the same time, and other DVDs like the various Petula Clark ones I have purchased, all of which I have enjoyed -- I consider it a real treat that these legends continue performing and that through the DVDs I have the chance to see them when they do not happen to be performing in my neck of the woods. Do they sound like they did 40 years ago? That would be impossible (as I have proven on my own recent CDs - see www.lawtunes.com). But these current performances and interpretations are a piece of music history and having them available to us is a gift which I for one very much appreciate.

Gary Puckett isn't 25 anymore
After having read the previous reviews I have to say that everyone has a point. I was fortunate to have seen Gary and the Union Gap in their heyday back in 1969 at University of Maryland's Cole Field House. They were and always be one of my favorite bands on the strength of the Mr Puckett's voice. Unfortunately, Gary can't hit all those high notes he could as a young man, but compared to his contemporaries he does just fine. The last time I saw him was about twelve years ago at an outdoor oldies show. I think this DVD should be treated as a commentary and old fans will probably forgive the Vegas type act he puts on these days. He was recently in the area but I couldn't get to see him. I would like to see a release of the Happy Together Tour which was reasonably well done with the Monkees, Herman's Hermits, Gary Puckett, Grass Roots which probably put most of these acts in better light. The compilation of 60's and 70's variety shows similar to the Sullivan show releases may be the closest thing we have left of some of these groups from that era.

"Trip Down Memory Lane"
Considering that Gary Puckett is now 62 years old, I really wasn't sure what the DVD would be like, but after watching it (many times over) I am a very happy fan. I bought the DVD shortly after seeing him in concert in August, and although his voice is not as clear and crisp as he was back in '68, he still has his unmistakenable baritone that he was known for back then. And, you have to realize that it's only been 37 years!!

This DVD contains all of the important hits--- "Lady Willpower", "Over You", "Woman, Woman", "This Girl is a Woman Now", and his finale, "Young Girl". There are also a couple of other tracks that I found entertaining, such as his renditions of "Runaround Sue/Pretty Woman", and Elvis' "American Trilogy".

His concerts simulate the material on this DVD, with the exception of the song "Home" which on the concert scene has brought some to tears. (including myself)

Overall, I was very happy with this DVD. What I would like to see though would be a compilation of his hits back then on DVD.
