Customer Reviews
fine two CD set--even if it is missing a few tracks
The Definitive Pop Collection is an excellent two CD set by The Everly Brothers. Man, how they could harmonize and sing! Their CDs still sell well today after all these years; and they truly made fantastic contributions to the evolution of music and rock and roll. The sound quality on this CD set is excellent and the artwork is very nicely done. Yes, there could have been a few extra tracks on this CD set; but still what we do get is awesome words and music all the way through!
"Bye Bye Love" starts the first CD off with quite a huge hit for The Everly Brothers. They sing perfectly of how they feel so sad over the loss of their true loves. The guitars work wonders for this number and The Everly Brothers never sounded better! "Wake Up Little Susie" showcases their talents again as they sing this cute little song about having so much fun on a date that they stayed out way too late! "Bird Dog" rocks really well for its time; and I really like "Bird Dog." "Bird Dog" again proves how well these two men could perform a song and make it stand out as a true, timeless hit.
"('Til) I Kissed You" is another awesome ballad performed by The Everly Brothers and they practically croon this number with some mighty fine guitars, drums and percussion! I love it. "When Will I Be Loved" sounds heavenly when The Everly Brothers deliver this completely unblemished; they shine on "When Will I Be Loved." "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)" gives us another charming tune that sparkles like gold in their competent hands; and the melody is very pretty. There's also "Love Hurts;" they perform this number with all their hearts and souls. Excellent!
The second CD continues with more outstanding ballads and tunes. "Ebony Eyes" is a love song that sounds so right when The Everly Brothers sing it; and they again harmonize to perfection and beyond! The background vocalists enhance the number even more. Listen also for "Stick With Me Baby;" this is another early rock song that sounds wonderful even today because The Everly Brothers had a truly classic sound.
"Crying In The Rain" puts The Everly Brothers in the spotlight as they sing of a love gone wrong; they sing this with great sensitivity and this amazes me. "That's Old Fashioned (That's The Way Love Should Be)" rocks well as the two brothers explore the joys of dating your sweetheart in a much more innocent, earlier time. I really like "That's Old Fashioned (That's The Way Love Should Be)." "The Price Of Love" has a strong guitar and harmonica arrangement that carries the melody well along with the brothers singing their very best.
After all is said and done, this is a fantastic two CD set highlighting the artistry of The Everly Brothers. Their fans will certainly want this; and people who like early rock and the oldies will cherish this CD set for years to come.
Everly Bothers
If you like the Everly Brothers this is one you do not want to miss. Brings you to a different time. All the greats they made.
Great Sound, But Skimpy on the Music
Rhino did a great job remastering these songs. But <72 minutes on a 2-CD set??? Either give us more music, or put it on a single CD for less $$.
