Customer Reviews
Nice, but not the best S&C
Sonny & Cher did some great singles, and I have had several ' Best Of ' albums & CD's that I loved. I bought this CD wanting to hear more, but outside of the 3 hit singles and a few original Sonny penned songs, it's all cover versions. They're okay, but not the calibre of songs that Sonny actually wrote for them & were their biggest hits. Well, that was the time in 1965-1966 when albums were just put out, and had lots of odds & ends. On the other hand, the other leading American groups like The Mamas & The Papas, The Byrds & The Lovin' Spoonful were blooming and creating full albums as as an artistic listening experience.
Pleasant pop & folk/rock , but not as essential as a Sonny & Cher best of. Also, there's no explanation for it, but Sundazed used the mono version of this album, so it is not in stereo. A Sonny & Cher box set would be great to have, putting on all the late 1968-1969 non-lp singles & b-sides that were not hits , but are GREAT INVENTIVE Sonny compositions, like " CIRCUS ", " GET IT TOGETHER " and " YOU'RE A FRIEND OF MINE ". These are among the treasure trove of S&C songs that have never been reissued since they were 45's. Rhino , where are you on this?
Oldies with heart, not in rock and roll hall of fame?
Why is this famous folk rock duo still waiting to be added to the rock and roll hall of fame? These reissues on sun dazed make me ask why??
This second Atco 1966 lp/cd on Sonny and Cher is filled with great pop tunes. "Set me free" has the Sonny & Cher harmonies in good stead. They make that Kinks tune their own. "What now my love" is the most poignant version, with Sonny and Cher acting the song with conviction. The spector-esque production builds with honest emotion, and the duo sound like a unified act. Sonny's anthem "Laugh at me " is a plaintiff force."The revolution kind" appears as a bonus, and is every bit as folk-rock rebellion as the former. This cd includes "Crying Time"(previously un-released) a bookend for "Bring it on home to me". "Have I stayed too long is an under-rated S & C single and is beautiful! It adds to the original tracks ,though it is also a bonus."But you're mine has a good-time Lovin' Spoonful feel.
Buy this sun dazed reissue!
This cd is good, but not Sonny and Chers' best
This cd, the 2nd Atco release by Sonny and Cher in 1966 is reissued by Sundazed records. Their 1st issue "look at Us" took the world by storm for it's unique blend of folk and rock. "Wondrous World" pales next to their 1st lp. It's fun and sincere in tone, but it makes no artistic break through, and strangely there are few origional Bono song compositions. The cd does include a Sonny and Cher classic in "What Now My Love", a Becaude-Delanoe Composition that gave them a hit in March of 66. The image of Sonny and Cher is here in music form, in their many duets about love. Chers' vocal on "Turn Around", is heartfelt and an exceptional effort compared to many of the "cute" oldie remakes.Of their three Atco origional lps this is the weakest. But, it is still good pop music and worth a listen.
