Nice but needs options
I am in the sign business and very familiar with LED lighting. These little lights are very well built and look great even when not lit up. For the average person the install is very easy and the included instructions don't leave anything out. That said the product could be made better with a few changes. Number one is the remote. The only way to turn these on and off is via the included remote control. It is a nice option if that is what you want but I didn't want to use it and only because I am comfortable taking things apart and understanding wiring of LED was I able to work around this. You should be able to buy the system without the remote. I ended up hard wiring the electronics to a photocell which suits my needs. If selling without the remote is not possible then there should be instructions on how to bypass the remote in the transformer box. It is easy to do and only involves moving a jumper inside the transformer box but they don't tell you this in the instructions. Also the included wire is very cheap and not what I would call outdoor rated. I tossed it and used an outdoor rated low voltage wire that we use when wiring commercial LED signs outdoors. The included stuff would not pass a code inspection in FL if it was seen by an electrical inspector. I love the look of the lights in my deck and would buy more if I could get them without the remote control for a much cheaper price. Sell the lights by themselves for $5.00 each and I would buy 50 of them!
Philips Blue LED's in the Snow
About a year ago I mounted these little things in the roof beam that hold up a partial cover over my deck. So the lights are shining down, not up (not their intended use I know). Anyway, they have worked flawlessly and really look cool on winter nights when the blue light hits the snow on the deck. Kind of a post modern Nordic look.
These lights are very simple to install. It's actually pretty difficult to screw it up. 2 things you should have is a 1 1/8 inch Forstner bit and a 3/4 inch Forstner bit. These are for making the holes in whatever wood you're installing into so the lights fit flush with surface. Don't skimp on the bit. A good one is $12 but will save many headaches and damage to your deck.
great lights, shabby wiring
I loved the LED Deck lights. We got the blue ones. Very small, but puts off alot of light for the size. Fits flush with the deck and you can hardly tell they are there during the day. Installation was a pain because the connectors included with the set didn't work. My husband had to hard wire every light in himself. Thank goodness he is an elecrician. Overall, I love the lights and the small hassle was worth it.
