This large calligraphy set is in a pretty cloth covered rectangular shaped box (7" by 11") so all you need is water! FREE package of 20 sheet calligraphy paper included with this purchase! Okay.
Mine was definitely not as pretty as the one in the picture. Over all, the set is okay, for a beginning set, and for the novelty value.

The Brushes:
Be careful with washing and using the brushes. The bristles keep falling off of mine. The outer bamboo off of one of my brushes was scratching off, and the black end-cap with the rope on another one of the brushes is missing (the rope end-caps can easily fall off).

Every thing else:
The box and the rest of the utensils are very pretty, though the lion, if you could call it that, on my stamp is disfigured, and I expected the inkwell to be bigger.

It's an okay set. The quality of the brushes might frustrate the beginner. The set I personally received definitely had flaws.

Beautiful set for gift or for yourself
This is a beautiful set. I am new to Chinese Calligraphy and I found this set inspiring. It looks lovely sitting on your shelf or desk. The set helps keep you motivated to pull it out and use it to practice the art. I purchased a couple of books to learn Chinese calligraphy and I have to say, this set is worth every penny, it has everything you need (minus the water and the paper) to make beautiful letters. House of Rice does have a very nice quality paper that is for calligraphy and brush.

It is well made and has everything you need to make beautiful art. This set met my criteria for a five star rating:
1. It was priced fairly
2. The product was as advertised.
3. It was good quality, The brushes are well made and didn't loose hair when I was painting, the ink stick made quality ink, the water dish, spoon, brush rest and soap stone chop stamp were all nice quality craftsman ship, it doesn't feel cheaply made. There is plenty of red chop ink paste in a beautiful container.

As I said in the title, this set would make a beautiful gift for someone who loves beautiful Chinese things, or for a beginner or experienced Chinese calligrapher. I am very pleased with the set and recommend it to everyone.

Random FYI for those interested:
The chop stamp is for you to engrave with your name or symbol to "sign" your art work with, the red ink is what you stamp with. When I was over seas I collected beautiful work from the artists and in the corner was a stamped name and it was always in red. I didn't think much of it however after receiving this set and seeing the red ink with instructions that it was to use for your signature stamp I figured out that tradition always has the name in red. Just some random observation I made that I found interesting.

I believe the seller changed the chinese brush, it is different from the picture. They sucks. And sth broken.
