Good idea book for your hot rod
This book offers a lot of eye candy for dreaming up EFI systems to retrofit into classic rods. There is a fairly general overview of how the systems work, which is great for the beginner. This book is focused on the hot rodder, the muscle car enthusiast, and the roadster crowd. That is all fine and good, my roots are in American muscle, but it is by no means a tome of knowledge. This is not a go-to book for technical reference, but rather a primer for the classic car builder who would like to go the extra mile with fuel injection and modernized engine management. It covers forced induction, and offers a diverse set of examples from under the hood of some serious trophy-winning show cars. Lots of large, quality photographs are great for daydreaming about your next project, but warrants further reading.
The title is deceptive, it should be something more along the lines of "Electronic Engine Management in Your classic Hot Rod". Titling the book as a "Reference Manual" is a bit of a stretch. On another note, the printing is noticeably deviant in color rendition, the photos all have a strange over saturation and shifted hues. The graphic design and layout is fantastic, as is the size and resolution of the photos. I must reiterate, the graphic design and layout is fantastic. The finish quality is indicative of the publisher's choice to use a Chinese bindery to keep costs low. The average magazine print quality is far better.
If you are looking for ideas on how to create a one-of-a-kind EFI system for your classic rod, this is a great start. If you want to learn about how to build an EFI system, you will need much, much more help. Again, I cite "How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems" by Jeff Hartman as an excellent reference on fuel injection.
Dragging old school muscle into the 21st century the easy way
If your looking at injecting almost any engine this is the book. Its written so anyone can understand it. The layout really suits my learning style, never seems to complex and seems to come from a really down to earth guy who knows what the average Joe is trying to do. If you've looked into injection and think you cant afford it, think again. This book will save you hundreds. Explains all the sensors and hardware required and how they need to be fitted to inject almost any engine. Great links and websites where these parts can be bought in most cases cheaper than you'd think. Great book for the beginner with enough ideas proposed for more advanced people wanting to take the extra step. A must have.
A comprehensive guide.
After reading the author's other book on Tuned Port Fuel Injection for chev small block I bought this book. This has to be the most comprehensive book on the subject.Plenty of colour photos, diagrams and explanations throughout. This book is ideal if you want to design your own or modify an existing unit to fit your own engine.Hot rodder's and customisers looking for something unique for their project will find this book an ideal guide.
For price alone the book is good value. The quality of the book is superb. Its printed on high quality-glossy paper and set out sensibly.
I also recommend the other book by this author:
"Small block Chevrolet:Tuned Port Fuel Injection".This book is also available from this website.
