In this book, you'll investigate the biblical origins of the tithe, the complete laws and practices of the tithe, and the giving practices of Jesus and early Christians. You'll learn that while it is impossible for Christians to obey the "Law" of the Tithe today, God desires all Christians to follow the "Spirit" of the Tithe, as revealed by God's five purposes for the tithe. You'll discover answers to today's most common tithe questions while discovering how to experience the life-changing power of the Spirit of the Tithe as God transforms your life, your church, and your community.

Learned things I never knew about biblical tithing
I must say, I've read a ton of books about tithing and this one showed me things I never learned in the other books. Although it takes a general "pro-tithe" stance, which pastors must like, it also shows a lot of biblical truths about tithing that most pastors probably don't want Christians to know about, and they certainly don't preach about it. It shows that most churches and pastors who are ramming tithing down your throat are picking and choosing tithe scriptures, (like Mal 3:11), but then ignore what the Bible says about: where Christians should biblically give their tithes (not always churches); why church volunteers should receive some payment from tithes; why it is biblical to give tithes to missionaries and even poor people in some cases; how pastors use Mal 3:11 to show that you are cursed for tithing less than 10%, even though the Law required 20-30%...so even the pastors are cursed if they are going to use Mal 3:11 to justify tithing; how the Law allowed Jews to tithe on the "Net", not the "Gross"; how the Law allowed Jews to feed the poor from their crops before calculating their "tenth"; how the tenth was not always the "best", but was sometimes lame animals which could not be exchanged; how Jewish tithes were not given in the 7th year at all; how Jewish tithes were only on food from the land and livestock -- but were specifically NOT to be taken from fish, spoils of war, horses, money, etc; how God required the tithes to be used to feed widows, orphans, strangers, church workers, priests, etc... but it was not allowed to be used for the Temple building itself, its expenses, furniture, etc -- these were paid by separate taxes, etc. I could go on and on, but basically, while the book definitely encourages tithing "in the Spirit of the Tithe," it is not at all legalistic, and it shows that if pastors really preached tithing according to the whole Bible, they would not be preaching it in the same way we hear it today, and the churches would probably be much the better for it, and many more souls would likely be saved by the church. The only bad thing about the book is that it is a little wordy in places, and basic in some spots; but otherwise, it was pretty meaty and a quick read. Highly recommended, both for Christians who want to tithe according to God's purposes without being in bondage to tithing; and for pastors who want to honestly preach tithing according to the "whole" Bible, and not according to the convenient traditions.
