Buy new: $48.14 / Used from: $39.95
This volume looks at John the Baptist, the crucial message of the "Kingdom of God," and examines each miracle story. He does not dismiss miracles out of hand and excoriates scholars for usually doing so. Very interesting study.
Jesus of NazarethJesus of Nazareth by Pope Benedict XVI
Buy new: $16.47 / Used from: $2.50
This book is ambitious in that it combines a scholar's sensibility with a pastor and believer's search for the face of Christ. For instance, note that he has engaged Meier above, as well as Schnackenburg and other heavyweights. This book is the first in what might turn into a small series, as he is writing it in his "spare time."

This author has an entirely different style and method as compared with Meier above. Whereas Meier is a sober historian, Wright is more bold in making his claims and has a "program" relating Jesus as heralding the end of the exile. Very interesting and worth reading and discussing.
