![]() | The Eraser by Thom Yorke
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.75 Obviously Thom yorke was the driving force behind Radiohead's more electronic driven side. This record is cold and beautiful. There is so much humanity wthin these mechanical songs.
![]() | Sperm Whale by Thrones
Buy used from: $13.70 Thrones is a solitary man with a guitar, a drum machine, and many, many distortion pedals. This is drone metal at its finest.
![]() | Second Edition by Public Image Ltd.
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $3.90 Very influential, yet sparse accolades in mainstream culture, from this pioneering electronic outfit. The sound is almost primal, a lot of focus on percussion and bass gives the record a tribal feel (a pIL trademark) and Johnny Lydon (no more johnny Rotten) contorts his vocals around the noise like a serpent. A classic record.
![]() | Funeral by Arcade Fire
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $7.37 An excellent first release from this montreal indie rock collective. Though they are not neccessarily my favorite canadian indie export, i cannot deny the sound or songs from "Funeral". and win butler sings as though he is crying his eyes out at an actual funeral procession.
![]() | Torture Garden by Naked City
Buy used from: $19.95 the sound is "DEATH JAZZ" ...not for everyone, these are mostly short compositions with john zorn on sax, i believe joey baron on drums, and the wonderous yamasaka eYE (from Boredoms) screeching and howling, using his voice as an unexplainable instrument, sometimes he even sounds as though he's vomiting. each song is under 30 seconds, but they are the most intense 30 seconds of yr life.
![]() | The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull by Earth
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $12.20 The masters of DOOM Metal, the muscianship is wonderful, and for those who like their drone very very HEAVY
![]() | Illinoise by Sufjan Stevens

![]() | Madvillainy by Madvillain

![]() | Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Buy used from: $7.99 One of the most essential records ever, in any genre...Miles at his most groundbreaking, i believe this is the perfect record for jazz non-believers to
finally be converted.
![]() | Pornography [Deluxe Edition] by The Cure
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $4.95 The darkest release in the Cure's entire catalogue and my personal favorite. The songs are dark and beautiful, and the sound of the synths and drums are unmistakeably the cure, not to mention the pained crooning of one robert smith.
![]() | Drum's Not Dead by Liars
Buy new: $14.97 / Used from: $9.99 Liars continue to astound me, they have a vast and complicated sound. their first record sounded like "gang of four" with an army of synths in an art gallery with a rather large austrailian singer shouting things in rythm...this record however is almost impossible to describe. haunting vocals and eerie electronics give way to a very adventurous and constantly differing sound. quite origial.
![]() | Infection and Decline by The Flying Luttenbachers
Buy used from: $9.87 This band is constantly changing personel, so each record is quite different. this is my personal favorite, great improvisational noise, via oddly tuned bass guitars, electronics and fierce percussion.
![]() | Tears of the Valedictorian by Frog Eyes
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $3.58 Frantic and adventurous. the vocals move at a spastic pace, but the music never ceases to keep up...another indie gem from canada
![]() | A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure by Matmos
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $1.98 Some of the most inventive electronic music out there. This is high concept dance music. samples from actual plastic surgery procedures are used, which add to the strange textures and sounds.
![]() | Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $3.00 A true classic...through distortion and tape loops, and buried vocals, comes some of the most beautiful noise you'll ever hear...kevin shields where are you?
![]() | Pulse Demon by Merzbow
Buy used from: $39.94 One of the true masters of Japanoise, merzbow creates strange sonic atmospheres, he is quite prolific as well, but i think pulse demon is a good way to cut your teeth on his work
![]() | Cassettetape Superstar by UFO or Die
Buy used from: $24.97 Extremely rare...one of yamasaka Eye's side projects, if yr a fan of Boredoms, get this one now!
![]() | The Man, the King, the Girl by Deerhoof
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $7.74 a great psych-noise rock album, with those distinctive vocals. great muscianship, and great songs...they have put out many records since, most of which are excellent...but i still prefer the rawness of their earlier records
![]() | En la Sombra del Pàjaro Velludo by Hetero Skeleton
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $0.90 not very well known (i dont even remember how i heard about them) and i dont know much about them. But their sound is pure insanity, jazz is used as a template to go in some very interesting directions, very noisey...not for everyone
![]() | Mori & DJ Olive by Kim Gordon
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $4.25 Not really Sonic Youth...its kim gordon on guitar and vocals/dj olive with turntables and a mixer/and ikue mori with electronics...very out there, in a simmilar vein as other SYR records
![]() | Leviathan by Mastadon
Buy used from: $39.78 a Mathcore masterpiece...a concept record dealing with Melville's "moby dick" , this record is quite heavy, and the muscianship is unparalled in the world of hardcore and metal
![]() | Black Dialogue by The Perceptionists
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $0.94 another great record from the def jux label, this is underground hip hop's version of a supergroup, includes mr. lif, akrobatik, and dj fakts one...social consciousness meets dirty beats and odd samples, they spit with meaning. DEF JUX remains the leader of challenging, diverse, and creative underground hip hop
![]() | Rabbit Habits by Man Man
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $4.95 Excellent cabaret weirdness abounds in this latest offering from Man Man, the sound could definitely be called tom waits-esque.
![]() | Sun Giant EP by Fleet Foxes
Buy new: $5.98 / Used from: $2.53 Beautiful and haunting debut, classical instrumentation and chilling vocals...they have a self titled full length which is equally wonderful
![]() | Lateralus by Tool
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.00 My personal favorite from these prog-metal gods. any hipster who thumbs their nose at TOOL isn't listening with an open mind...this is a phenomenal record
![]() | Definitive Jux Presents II by Various Artists
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $0.44 a great comp, and a good way to worm your way into the wonderful world of underground hip hop via the DEF JUX label...i may be biased, but i think aesop rock has the hottest track.
![]() | You Forgot It in People by Broken Social Scene
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $5.48 A musical collective in the truest sense, everything clicked for this record, which became an indie rock instant classic. plenty of experimentation and excellent songwriting...once again proving that canada is the new mecca of indie rock (with brooklyn ny a close second)
![]() | Irony Is a Dead Scene by Dillinger Escape Plan
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.94 Im really only a casual fan of dillenger, but when they teamed up with the otherwordly MIKE PATTON their mathcore sound gets completely f****d up in true patton fashion. synths erupt with savage abandon
![]() | Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? by Of Montreal
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $6.00 Just when i thought the Elephant 6 collective was no longer relevant, comes this great record from kevin barnes and of montreal. Filled to the brim with bubbling synths and drum machines, and great song writing. this is what a modern pop record should sound like
![]() | Labor Days by Aesop Rock
Buy used from: $8.25 Aesop's first release for DEF JUX, a definite sonic departure from his earlier work, but the brilliant serpentine poetry is always there, his rhetoric is spit with fire, brimstone, and a great sense of humor.
![]() | Anonymous by Tomahawk
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $6.48 The latest offering from this Mike Patton project. The songs are reconstructions of near ancient native american songs done in the manner one would expect from patton. Dark, brooding, but playful and creative, a vast sound and a great album
![]() | Sharpen Your Teeth by Ugly Casanova

![]() | Interstellar Space by John Coltrane
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $8.01 One of the most pioneering artists continues his legacy of always being ahead of the curve, not the coltrane for beginners, this one is space-y, experimental and atmospheric
