Nintendo's Wii video game system (pronounced "we") brings people of all ages and video game experience together to play. This simple yet ground breaking idea is expressed not only though the system's evocative name, which is easily pronounced in a variety of languages, and suggests two players side by side, but also through its innovative list of features and extensive list of playable titles.

As with every console, much of the buzz surrounds the specs. The Wii boasts 512 MB of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports, and a slot for SD memory expansion. The system’s technological heart -- a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway" and a graphics chipset from ATI code-named "Hollywood" -- deliver stunning performance. And instead of a tray, Wii uses a single, self-loading media bay that plays both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system, as well as Nintendo GameCube discs.Revolutionary Control
No bigger than a small traditional remote control, the wireless Wii Remote is a truly multi functional device. The magic of the Wii Remote's design lies within; acellerometers inside the controller measure movement in all directions and at all speeds. In a tennis game, it serves as your racket as you swing away. In driving games it serves as a steering wheel, allowing you to swerve to avoid obstacles or pickup power-ups. In first-person shooters, it acts as a firearm that you can point directly at an on-screen enemy. The controller also has a force feedback "Rumble" feature and an expansion port for use with accessories, such as the Nunchuck, which adds an analog thumbstick and trigger buttons. The system allows for up to four controllers to be linked at a time and utilizes standard Bluetooth wireless technology. For those who prefer the feel of a traditional controller an adapter is available that fits over the Wii's remote.

Each Wii comes with a game compilation called "Wii Sports," including tennis, golf, baseball and bowling games, that show off the console's intuitive new controller, but Wii also plays games developed specifically for it as well as fan-favorite games from Nintendo's 20-year-old library. Its drive is compatible with GameCube discs, and select Nintendo titles from the original NES of the 1980s all the way through the Nintendo 64 are available for download through the "Virtual Console" for $5 and $10 respectively. To support this backwards compatibility the Wii includes four ports for classic Nintendo GameCube controllers and two slots for Nintendo GameCube Memory Cards. As if that weren't enough, the Virtual Console will also make available a few titles from SNES console contemporaries, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx 16.Also, Wii utilizes Nintendo's newly-announced wireless feature, WiiConnect24. This worldwide feature allows players to receive content such as Wii Message Board messages sent from other Wii consoles, Miis, e-mails, updated channel and game content, and notification of software updates even while the console is on standby, keeping the fun going even when you are not online.* Access to some channels may require your Wii needs to be set up with WiiConnect24.
Customer Reviews
A system from Nintendo that brings back the old Nintendo gameing days.
In 1985, Nintendo was a powerhouse giving us the orginal Nes , and in 1991 had another bang with SNES.Nintendo did make the N64 which revolutionized 3d graphics period and then came the Gamecube but ir wasnt until 2006 that Nintendo got it's mojo back with this state of the art system. They are now back on top simular to where they were in 1985, in fact Nintendo has beaten both its competetors XBox 360 and PS3 by a milestone why is this you as simple owning a Nintendo is fun again. With motion control and the you are expeirencing the game feel instead of paying it.Why play as Mario when you can be Mario or be Link from Zelda.
With its wi fi connection support built in you can play with people from all over the world, with wii wear you can get classic nintendo console games like Super Mario Bros. The controls at times get hard to get used to but the Wii has games to help you get used to the controls because right now they are unlike any video game system controls. These sports games will get you geared up for when you get and future games, if these controls the wii controller and the nunchuck are not your bag then you can get a regular controller or it as it gives you that option plus you can hook up a gamecube controller with 4 players at a time this system has the best multi player control. The graphics while not as close or superior to its competetors the graphics are beautiful for this system
rent Super Mario Galaxy and you will see very quickly just what these graphics are able to do as they are very impressive. It is not hi def or blue ray capable be in mind this is just a game system and not a cd or
hi def advanced entertainment machine if you want that you should look
at XBox 360 or PS3.The only complaint i would have is that nintendo just dosent get out games fast enough whereas you always see XBox and PS3 bringing out big titles every week,on Nintendo your wait will be more like monthly with is a big downside it was the same problem they seem to have in the past and still have it today.Other then that if you like a fun system that will entertain you and your hole family then this is the system for you.
The best video game system
We have owned an Xbox, PS2, PS3, Dreamcast, various other Sega incarnations, and various Atari systems. This is the most fun of all of them. The visuals aren't as good as the PS3, but you get to stand up and move around. The controls on all of the games I've played on the Wii are very intuitive.
We were lucky enough to get a Wii at Best Buy the day we decided to look for one. There were none available online (at a reasonable price), otherwise we probably would have bought one from Amazon.
I think my favorite "game" is the Wii Fit. We did have to wait for that, but it's worth it. The Wii Play, which came with the unit, is still one of my favorites. And I like House of the Dead. Sometimes you just have to go out and kill zombies. :) Oh, and Mario Kart is also a lot of fun.
What other game can people of all skill levels and ages play together and all have fun? What other games don't leave you with sore thumbs? OK, there might be some out there, but this is the best system. You get your whole body involved and you feel like you've done something.
Now, if Nintendo would just get around to making them a little more available, that would be great.
