Goin' Backwards3
Goin' Places was released less than a year after The Jacksons' self-titled album and despite the reteaming with Gamble & Huff, the album is a step back for the band. The album is not bad per se, but after leaving Motown for more creative control, the band still found themselves under the thumb of a powerful production team. The experiment of recording a famous Motown act in the Philly Soul sound was an astounding success on their first album together, but Goin' Places sounds like a recycled version of that album. There are some quality songs like "The Music's Takin' Over", "Man Of War" and "Heaven Knows I Love You Girl" but the balance of the album sounds like outtakes. Goin' Places was a major flop on the charts, producing no hit singles and not even denting the Top 40. Despite the criticism, the album is worth a listen if you like The Jacksons and the work of Gamble & Huff.

"FIND ME A GIRL" is definately worth the purchase price!!4
After going through some sort of Jackson Fever, I bought this disc and other Jacksons and Jackson Five albums. After listening to this cd a couple of times, I noticed that a lot of the songs were catchy and not one was really bad or unlistenable... which is a good thing. The bad thing is that some of the lyrical content seems to be lacking inspiration and it certainly doesn't break any new ground (I'm glad I don't have to blame them for this).

Anyway, despite those things, this disc has several good R&B tunes, my favorite being "Find Me A Girl," obviously. I love this song so much... Michael layed some very smooth and soulful vocals on us in this one. For me, this track alone was well worth the purchase price of the whole cd. Other mentionable tracks are "Even Though You're Gone," "Heaven Knows I Love You, Girl," "Man of War," and "Different Kind of Lady."

If you like the Jacksons or you like to listen to Michael's vocal performances, then this album won't dissappoint, but if you're looking for substance or growth, you better look somewhere else... maybe "Triumph."

A Good Start4
If you are a Jackson fan, then you should know that one of the biggest reasons the Jackson 5 left Motown was because of lack of independence. They weren't permitted to write nor produce any tracks. To show what they were made of, in 1975 the Jacksons transferred to Epic records. Their first album did not do too well but hey, it was a start with one hit. Their second, Goin Places, really started paving the road to stardom on a new label. If you are willing to add this legendary piece to your Jackson collection, I would recommend you to listen to the Jacksons' song "Different Kind of Lady". Although the song was not commercially released as a single, it was played in clubs and discos all across the nation. I guarantee you would not be sorry with this purchase.
