Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie will help the rebellious Texas army to hold the Alama in front of the General Santa Ana army. A classic with some overlong passages. Recommended.
	Warlock Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $6.21 ****1/2 1959. Produced and directed by Edward Dmytryk. The film could be described at first as the Sole Samurai as a tribute to Akira Kurosawa's THE SEVEN SAMURAI, but WARLOCK is in fact a lot more complex than one could have expected it. Highly recommended.
	The Law and Jake Wade Buy used from: $5.93 *** 1958. Directed by John Sturges. Richard Widmark forces Robert Taylor to lead him to the spot where he hid $20'000. The attack of the Comanches is one of the most impressive fights I've seen in a western. Nonetheless, the film can be forgotten.

Directed by Gene Kelly. Golden Globe nomination earned by Doris Day. A curiosity with Widmark in a comic role. Isolde and Augie Poole can't have a child so they decide to adopt one. One night, Augie goes out with Estelle Novick and wakes up in a motel room. He's persuaded that he had sex with her. Recommended.
	Saint Joan [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - France ] Buy used from: $25.99 *** 1957. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. The screenplay was an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw, "Saint Joan" (York Notes) by Graham Greene. Joan of Arc appears in dream to King Charles VII, decades after her death. Both remember the important moments of the life of Joan. A DVD zone discovery.
	Time Limit Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $13.05 **** 1957. Produced by Richard Widmark and directed by Karl Malden. a movie to be rediscovered. Widmark is a military D.A. trying to understand why Richard Baseheart turned communist while incarcerated in a North Korean prison. Excellent court movie. Highly recommended.
	The Last Wagon Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $6.30 ***** 1956. Written and directed by Delmer Daves. Widmark, who has been raised by the Comanches, must lead a group of youngsters through the Arizona desert while Apaches are after them. Tremendous western deserving to be rediscovered. Masterpiece.

Journalist Jane Greer finds in the Mexican jungle Richard Widmark, a writer who decided to quit writing after his wife's departure. During their flight to Mexico city, they must land in the jungle and they meet there Trevor Howard, a strange archeologist. Recommended.
	Backlash [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - Spain ] Buy used from: $27.99 ***1/2 1956. Directed by John Sturges. Jim Slater, in the company of Donna Reed, is looking for the grave of his father who died, with four other goldminers, in Gyla Valley during an Apache ambush. But who's the sixth man who managed to escape with the gold? An interesting little B movie. Recommended.

Remake of Joseph L. Mankiewicz's HOUSE OF STRANGERS. Description of the relation between an authoritarian father and his four sons. Recommended.
	Garden of Evil (NTSC All Region Import) Buy used from: $10.56 ***** 1954. Directed by Henry Hathaway. Cooper, Widmark and Mitchell arrive by boat in Puerto San Miguel where they meet Susan Hayward, the wife of an engineer, who's willing to give $1000 to anyone coming with her through the Apache territory in order to save her husband. Masterpiece.
	Pickup on South Street - Criterion Collection Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $16.49 ***** 1953. Written and directed by Samuel Fuller. One nomination for the Academy awards (Thelma Ritter). A pickpocket steals a microfilm without knowing it. Cops, F.B.I. and communists are soon after him. Masterpiece.
	O Henry's Full House Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $11.98 **** 1952. Directed by H. Hawks, H. Koster, J. Negulesco, H. Hathaway and H. King. Five stories written by O. Henry and presented by John Steinbeck himself. Great performances by Widmark, Laughton, Jeanne Crain and Anne Baxter. Highly recommended.
	Don't Bother to Knock Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.86 *** 1952. Directed by Roy Ward Baker. A hotel lobby in NYC. Richard Widmark and Anne Baxter have a fight. Widmark flirts with Marylin Monroe who's babysitting. He'll soon understand that she's completely mad. Nice Monroe performance but the movie is forgettable.

After the death of Cassidy, chief of the "Frogmen", Richard Widmark's got the difficult task to succeed to a man much admired by his men. Classic WWII movie without imagination. Already forgotten.

A company of marines under Richard Widmark's command must find where a Japanese rocket base is hidden. A superb mise-en-scene, just admire these travelings !, and a great Widmark performance. Highly recommended.

In this social film noir, a racist hoodlum, played by Richard Widmark, taxes a black doctor with the murder of his wounded brother and Linda Darnell doesn't know where's the truth.
	Panic in the Streets (Fox Film Noir) Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.64 **** 1950. Directed by Elia Kazan. Academy award in the Best Writing category. New-Orleans. Richard Widmark manages to convince the mayor and the police forces that, in order to avoid a pandemic, they have to find the murderer of Kochak, an emigrant who had bubonic plague. Highly recommended.

One day, after having met the old wrestling glory Gregorius, he thinks to have at last found a way to reach fame. Masterpiece.

A gang of bandits, led by Gregory Peck, must cross the desert in order to escape the army after their last hold-up. They finally arrive to a ghost town where they meet an old prospector and his granddaughter. Masterpiece.
	Road House (Fox Film Noir) Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $7.69 **** 1948. Directed by Jean Negulesco. When Lily Stevens is hired by Jefty to sing in his bar/bowling, everybody knows that Lily will soon be his mistress. But she's rather attracted by Jefty's friend and employee Pete Morgan. Jefty will imagine an ingenious scheme to get his revenge. Highly recommended.
	The Street With No Name (Fox Film Noir) Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.32 ***1/2 1948. Directed by William Keighley. In Center City, Richard Widmark's gang killed innocent people during its two last hold-ups. FBI agent Gene Cordell is asked by Insp. George A. Briggs to join undercover Widmark's gang. Recommended.
	Kiss of Death (Fox Film Noir) Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.99 ****1/2 1947. Directed by Henry Hathaway. Richard Widmark, in his first role, earned a Golden Globe (Most promising newcomer) and an Academy award nomination, so does Eleazar Lipsky for the screenplay. Mature accepts to become a snitch in order to be with his children. Highly recommended.
