Somehow I forgot to include this on my first attempt at this list. If Shakespeare had written a Screwball Comedy, it would have come out something like this movie. NOTE: By adding this, I had to remove THAT UNCERTAIN FEELING from position #40--it's well worth seeing.

The sexual tension in the THIN MAN series is all passive-aggression, with Powell needling Loy about how he only married her for money and the constant flow of liquor to keep the relationship lubricated. A fascinating take on the genre.

ATTENTION: This is a Region 2 product. Unless you have a multi-region player, you'll have to record it from cable. It's also a (terrific) Christmas movie, and that's probably the most likely time you'll find it on TV.

A tremendous movie by any standards, but barely a screwball. Vincent Canby defined Screwball as "a sex comedy without the sex." This one has plenty of sex, but done with "The Lubitch Touch," in the first year of the Production Code--before artists started self-censoring by turning the sex into conflict.

This film and UNFAITHFULLY YOURS (#11) show how dark the Screwball Comedy would become in the waning days of the genre.

A strange hybrid of drama and screwball, this excellent late Capra film still resonates in today's political climate. (End of list.)
