Does its job3
Really the only product advertised as capable of holding more than just a few sheets of paper, the Fellowes Book Lift Holder serves its purpose well enough. I use it specifically to have an open textbook as a reference on my desk while doing schoolwork, yet the product quality certainly could use some improvement. This holder is made of a flimsy plastic, not exactly the kind of durable material needed to consistently hold heavy textbooks. In my opinion this thing needs to be made of metal, but hey, what do you expect for 10 bucks? So if you are looking for something to hold open your textbooks (cooking books, papers, etc.) you really will not find much else on the market. Just do not expect this to be of a very high quality.

Excellent!5
Because I'm a free lance writer and reviewer, I often have to have books on a holder for reference or for when I'm direct quoting.

I had a book holder from another company, but it was a piece of junk. It wouldn't hold up thicker books and the thin, rounded "holders" at the bottom kept popping off. I even had my husband tried to fix them by shoring up the holders with tape and such.

It kept breaking and out of frustration, I went to an office supply store to look for another one. The silver Fellowes Book Holder was all they had. Although the clerk assured me it was a sturdy, I was skeptical. I had him go into the office, get me a thick, hardcover book--and proceeded to take the Book Holder out of the box to test it. (Yes, right there in the store!)

I was immediately impressed with the sturdiness and snugness of the wide holders at the bottom. The plastic looks flimsy, but I'm tellin' ya, this baby really does well for holding open thick books! I've been using mine for about a week now and love it. No more headaches when I need to get a quote! YAY!

Does not hold large textbooks. Same piece breaks over and over.3
I've owned about 3 of these so far. There is a little tab in the back that inserts into a hole where you select the height of the stand. The little tab bears ALL of the weight of the book & stand, and it is plastic along with the rest of the unit.

I keep crazy glueing the tab back, and it continues to work for a while, but it's frustrating. There is another clipboard/bookstand out there called the "easy reader", which is a little more pricey and heavier, but infinitely more sturdy. It might have been discontinued too.

I really don't understand why they don't make the part that has the tab metal. If they did, the stand would last a whole lot longer, and would hold bigger books. As a medical student, I need it to hold larger textbooks, and it doesn't do the job. It works well for smaller books.
