From the Inside Flap
Kathryn M. Ireland is a maven of color when it comes to home design. In addition to having her own textile line, she freely and effortlessly mixes flea market finds with important antiques to create classically comfortable rooms. Emphasizing the beauty of quality ironwork, wood, tile, and furniture pieces, Ireland pulls together a magnificent home of unpretentious grandeur.
This book chronicles the sympathetic restoration of an early Wallace Neff-designed estate in Ojai, California. Some "before" photos show how she rescued this architectural artifact from disrepair. Fabulous "after" images reveal a home that is suited for both comfortable living and entertaining.
Anecdotal, amusing, and informative, Creating a Home describes Ireland's hands-on restoration experience and her choices of colors and materials, and celebrates the craftsmanship that turned this classic home from glum to glamorous.
] Kathryn M. Ireland was raised in London and Scotland. Skillfully blending English manor and French farmhouse sensibilities with Malibu's bohemian vibe, Ireland creates signature interiors for a distinguished clientele ranging from Hollywood A-listers to English aristocracy and neighbors next door. House Beautiful named her one of the top 100 designers in the United States. Her fabric line is distributed worldwide.
Ireland has appeared on A&E's House Beautiful, PBS's Find, Style Network's Shabby Chic, and Food Network's Barefoot Contessa, as well as participating in the ITV show Design Wars. "The property was captivating, compelling and romantic and it took my breath away. Then I realized I was looking at 8,000 square feet of deferred maintenance and the next five years of my life. But I love the fact that Kathryn took it on. It was amazing." -Diane Keaton

HER BEST YET!
Kathryn Irelands latest book is her best yet. the photographs are rich, lush and deep; much better than last time.
the story, yes it tells a story of reclaiming and transforming a classic home that had fallen into disrepair and the process of turning into a gem is both educational and inspiring.
if you cant have the house; get the book
Total Disappointment
I have her previous book and was waiting for this one to come out, with excitement I might add. Well, save your money and if you really want to look at the book, go to the library or the bookstore. It's a rehash of her work and previously printed material, as well as photo shoots that were done by one of the fashion magazines. Pure self-promotion. These days I want more for my money. I actually returned this book after looking at it...that's how disappointed I was in the book.
This was a pleasure to read!
If you are an admirer of early American architecture, you'll enjoy following Kathryn's impressive restoration of this Ojai estate, bringing back to life the romantic Spanish Colonial spirit while adding spice notes of color from the landscapes of North Africa to the Central American jungles. An enormous undertaking with a breathtaking result, check this book out and become inspired to turn glum to glamerous!
